I know the BIG PICTURE says that Mitch has been a wildly successful athletic director, but the basketball program is the crown jewel for optics, if not budget. And this Lifetime Contract should be a fireable offense, in my opinion. Just really dunderheaded stuff.

Add that to the Billy Clyde and Joker debacles, his rocky relationship with the fans, and his unwillingness to adapt (alcohol, NIL, etc.) and you've got a problematic guy in the big chair.

Mitch Barnhart should be getting on his knees and thanking Austin MacGinnis nightly for hitting that field goal, or we could be having an entirely different conversation today.

I have a feeling that Calipari will be ready to sit down and see how much they'd pay him just to leave after this, ahem, season is over in March 2024.

If he was feeling pressure this past December, well...it's going to be rough this year. I think the university, the fans, the boosters, and the town will run him out because the season is going to be a disaster.

As shallow as we are and as many holes as there appear to be, there is too much pure NBA-ready talent on the roster for it to be a disaster.

We will be just good enough to carry this horror show into the next offseason. Barring another unforeseen injury, anybody expecting or (God forbid) wanting another 9-16 is going to be disappointed.

I long for the days people got in arms about stuff like that. Instead what we're up against now is way more alarming and devastating. They're not even in the same universe. This is real...well, it looks like incompetence.

He *did* have success afterwards, but as you agreed it was terrible. IMO - it told us his mindset and that mindset was not "I'm here to make the program better and/or continue the tradition".

I’m not just referring to this particular recruitment, though.

I’ve long been of the opinion that all the talk of Cal operating in secrecy was just a cover for the fact that he’s stubborn as can be and probably isn’t doing half as much as he ought to be in this new era of college basketball.

Like I said, I understand, and am looking forward to a fresh start. I hope that is after this coming season, regardless of outcome. It'd be great to win a NC and Cal retire. Better than missing the tourney or losing in the first round and he tell us "the players aren't robots" and put on the goofy grin of "yes, I can continue to say that and there is nothing you can say or do about it".

You're welcome. I thought the program was in the dumps when Kentucky Shame was circulating or when Billy Clyde was out there chasing college gals with a Bud Light Lime or two in hand, but I have to admit the current status is painfully irritating.

By next spring all 30 or so WCN members will be chasing each other around with 2x4's in hand. I might not be the toughest on here, but I am pretty sure I'm the youngest so I can probably outrun a few of ya.
