DVZ, one thing with Oscar and his ability to improve on weaknesses was that he apparently wasn’t healthy and that impacted him some in the season, too. If he returns you have to hope that he’s healthy, he’s in shape by game one, and that might help him address some of his issues. You also have to hope that he’s not as busy off of the court.

Will, that’s an interesting thought about the info being false. It wouldn’t be uncommon at all. I’d find Greenberg’s involvement to be very weird though.

What could he promise Dickinson if Oscar comes back? Oscar has to be around the basket to rebound, and that's where Dickinson is most effective. Neither player will want to share PT and a double post offense would scare Cal senseless. And can anyone imagine Oscar guarding on the perimeter? I can't see both working.

As alluded to many times, Cal is like a car salesman and will say whatever it takes to make it happen.

I'll preface this by saying I'm still highly skeptical that Oscar will return, but as the smoke thickens a bit, I'm curious about something: do you think he could actually improve his deficiencies over the summer?

The primary concern is defense, obviously. Yeah, he could stand to improve his quickness and flexibility, but if he were even a serviceable defender I think you'd have a guy who could repeat as NPOY. But is it realistic to think a player entering his fourth season can become a better defender, when the very thing we're talking about is as fundamental as it gets? Part of me thinks that's precisely why he could improve, but the other part thinks that's why he won't; it's relatively simple stuff and shouldn't be hard to sharpen, but it's also possible he'd have gotten it by now if it were going to happen.

Of course he can improve in every phase of the game. He has a hall of fame coach. Doesn’t everyone improve dramatically here?

Lots of players have. I’d argue that of the ones who stuck around, more improved than didn’t.

Dickinson will go out and shoot 3s. He was 42% this past season. So he could pull the opponents 5 out and leave Oscar to rebound.
