I don't view Bona as a "consolation prize". He's a bonafide Top 10 5-Star with unparalleled energy. If we're fortunate enough to get him to Lexington, we will be in a great position to raise another banner. Come on down Adem!

3 top 10 recruits for Scheyer.

I always thought the notion that he/Duke would fall when K left was stupid. They are proving to be the same Duke they have always been.

Jury will still be out on Duke's long term sustainability without K until Scheyer proves he can actually coach or any of his successors do.

Here’s hoping Lively a bright future and wonderful life. But ZERO wins in college

Exactly. He may prove to be great. But Matt Doherty recruited marvelously at UNC before flopping on the court. He assembled a good enough team to win a title for Roy as soon as he got there.

I imagine K has helped considerably with recruiting this class trying to help his successor for that matter.

I can’t think of one Duke assistant who’s been a good college coach. I’m not naive enough to think Duke doesn’t have the power to remain Duke, but let’s see how that dork does without K before we anoint him.

Interesting, and a bit concerning. If Cal misses on him after possibly prioritizing Lively, that would be another big misstep. Cal and UK have had way too many misses on guys they "thought" were gettable, while missing out on one they "had in the hand". Not good if that trend continues with Bona. Apparently he may not be the lock many assumed he was especially after how this Lively situation went down...

Dukes not going anywhere. 1. Nike wants em competative and Nike has enormous influence on college game and top level recruiting, 2 ESPN and segments of national print media want Duke competative and are also huge players in the game. 3. K is going to be the de facto “general manger” of Duke program for the next couple of years unless I miss my bet, easing Scheyer’s transition. Finally Cal has obviously had a falling out with Knight at Nike, to point that he didn’t accept an invitation to the Nike invitation anniversary tournament. Knight in his own way called Call out for it so I doubt if UK will become the new favorite son of Nike now that K is out of the way. Personally I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing for UK, not a fan of Nike or their business practices.

I didn't believe it would be immediate, and your point is spot on. Scheyer has been recruiting for Coach K/Duke for a while and that's the reason he was given the job. Let's compare him in 3 years.

In the short term that doesn't seem to matter to recruits...........see Penny Hardaways coaching statistics.

Coach K told Lively he would still be involved with Duke basketball and would help in his development. Maybe K will be calling the shots behind the scene??

I’m confident K will be more involved than NCAA rules allow and that it will never be a problem for Duke. Above the law.

All the more reason why Lively should have chosen UK. How have Duke big men fared in the pros compared to UK’s?

I absolutely agree which makes his decision much more difficult to understand.
