I am really looking forward to the draft this year to see the fall out (what number Knox & SGA get picked) and read the articles about the guys who got drafted in the late 2nd round (no guarantee money, and you still have to make the roster or G league) see how they feel or the ones that don't get drafted at all, now what is the plan?

That's a hell of a drop-off from Kentucky to LaSalle.

Athletically though that's about where Quade is. I think he could be fantastic when he's 21 or 22, but he's probably the least athletic player Cal has recruited other than Julius Mays. And Quade vs. Mays would be close.

BUT when you lose him you lose a guy who can shoot the basketball reasonably well, and that's huge. Guys who can come off the bench and get you points are essential.

There's no way to say this for sure just observing the team like we are. There are so many things about the dynamics of the team that we can't know.

Vanderbilt might be a leader. Washington. A couple of these freshmen might have leadership qualities like MKG or Shai or somebody like that.

No reason to put definites on a season in April. That's the kind of stuff we've killed crazzed about for years.

Way more than leadership, the most damning thing about this is what it says about the system at Kentucky. You can't lose players to LaSalle who might be starters for you.

That's an indication that things just are not working in the system you've created. In many ways Quade, though he's not close to a superstar, would be one of the hardest defections to take if he goes to a place like LaSalle. Because that's a clear suggestion that the thing Cal designed here just does not work and that it has reached a point where it absolutely can't sustain itself.

We can maybe overcome Quade's leadership. That can come from other guys. But when you have players who averaged 26 or so minutes who could be main cogs as sophomores leaving for LaSalle...we've jumped the shark.

Is it fair to say that you really can't call Kentucky a basketball program now? Yes we still play basketball but the whole student athlete part is out the window. Cal's big thing is helping players achieve success but maybe he didn't get the memo that some players who are not pro material can find success off the court with a degree as a ex alumni memeber of the Kentucky Wildcats. Would you rather make 35k a year or get a degree and referral and earn much more?

Looking foward down the road, let's hope the next coach can recruit at a high level and also build a program with great role players surrounded by the superstar talents. I used to think you absolutely could not win without 5 stars and that still holds true for the most part but look at all these mid level teams with 2-4 star players who not only compete with the big boys, but actually win games.
