I don't know that it is, at least the current model.

A few years ago Coach Cal was going on about the demise of the NCAA and how it wouldn't even exist in its current form anymore at a certain point, and I wonder if this is what he was talking about.

If that happens, what you'll have is a handful of all-star teams and everyone else will be out of luck.
That's kind of already been happening for probably four decades or more.

And allegedly there were more programs involved than just the big ones and more players involved than just the top of the top. Wichita State's Fred Van Vleet was mentioned, for instance.

I thought the same. I've seen Miles Bridges' photo on many of the articles this morning. Bridges allegedly went to one meal totaling about 60 bucks.

That's a pile of horse manure.
Well you remember the Pete Thamel sanctimony over Eric Bledsoe, or Pat Forde's numerous proclamations from the high horse denouncing John Calipari. If we're coordinating with agents and shoe runners to get players paid, then that needs to be brought to light and dealt with. But if this is much ado over a bunch of poor black kids getting paid for their basketball talents, it's a load of crap and I hope the NCAA as it exists dies a painful death.

How so? Nothing yet suggests any of this has to do with Calipari.

The only coaches I've seen mentioned are Izzo and anonymous coaches from Villanova, and even those weren't attached to anything but innuendo.

This isn't a coach problem given what we know right now. It's an agent and player problem.

And if that's all it is in the end, I say the NCAA changes the rules, say "this won't happen again," and that's the last we hear of it.

What will the coaches with current players named in the investigation do about playing those players?

In the Kevin Knox case, it appears that the rules state that as long as the benefit is under 200 dollars (100?), he can pay back the amount to the charity of his choice and be good to go. I can't imagine that his dinner tab would be more than that.

So, if I was Sandy Bell, I would advise him to go ahead and pay back that 200 and call it a closed matter, even if he didn't attend that dinner.

He plays Saturday (and the rest of the season).

They should do nothing at all. Play them and let the NCAA sort it out.

If this were just one school then it'd be different. But this is a bunch of guys, most of whom didn't do anything wrong but sit down for a meal. Nobody should sit tomorrow.

Like I said, pay 200 to Kevin Knox's charity of choice, even if he didn't go to a dinner, and then there won't even be a question if the NCAA comes calling.

It may come back to Cal but there's certainly nothing there right now that has much to do with Cal.

I would assume there's going to be another info dump at some point. This is way below what Yahoo! teased at the start. Either their info was wrong or they're going to dole this out in pieces.

These comments from Bam's coach make me feel good about even Bam's situation. $$ may have gone to a guy around Bam if anything.....

“I’m kind of surprised by it. I’ve never known Bam to take a dime from anybody. I’ve seen no evidence of that — no change of lifestyle while he was in high school or college — and he’s a good kid who wants to do things the right way,” former High Point coach Brandon Clifford told SEC Country. “When you have these big-time athletes, there’s often other people involved around them. I know Bam wasn’t running around setting up meetings with agents. I don’t know what all happened, but I know the kid and he always wants to do the right thing.

“He wouldn’t have jeopardized his future at Kentucky. I would bet there’s a lot more truth that hasn’t had a chance to come out yet.”
