The thing that you're missing about this is that Bam Adebayo didn't take that loan to come here.

ASM was trying to direct him to North Carolina State, an Adidas school and our biggest competition to land him. He came here, instead. And then he didn't even sign with ASM after the season ended, hence the "bad loan."

I'm not saying that there aren't more UK players involved, but I don't think we should be worried.

Certainly. But his eligibility is impacted, regardless. Further, ASM certainly isn't on an island doing this by himself. It's reasonable to assume this was being done by other agents/actors as well. The guy at Addidas spearheading this was an ex-Nike guy.

You're right, but until I see more stuff (there is more stuff), I'm not going to waste time worrying about it.

I am NOT concerned about any of the ASM stuff, specifically, because John Calipari despises Andy Miller and it's widely documented. And if it involves 30-40 teams, the NCAA does nothing.

The cynical side of me says if he turned that down how much did he actually get? We'll see what happens. I am not naive enough to think UK has no involvement in anything. Just too much dirty business in this high level recruiting and UK has been at or near the top of it for eight years.

Sure. In the information released regarding Bowen and UofL. Among the recorded conversations is the shoe guy discussing another player, "The other company just upped the offer to $150,000" and discussing the possibility of countering higher.

He did take the loan, but he just didn't do what ASM wanted him to do (sign with them, go to NC State).

Unless he also accepted a bigger loan from another agent.

The FBI dropping a pile of evidence in the lap of the NCAA doesn't mean the NCAA has to do a thing with it. Bill Walton revealed how well the UCLA players of Wooden's entire run were compensated by boosters and it didn't even spark an investigation. And that was just one team.

No reason for `em to start now............... depending on the team, of course.

Time to let teams pay players as much as they want or can afford.

One thing that's painfully clear is you should never cooperate with the NCAA or do anything until the NCAA forces your hand. But if this is as deep as it appears, the NCAA ain't doing jack about it. There'll be enough litigation among Duke/UNC/Kentucky/Kansas/Louisville/Everyone else to bankrupt the NCAA.

I think if this is all they have, UK will come out smelling like a rose. It is becoming pretty clear that (as with PEDs) the whole thing is universally corrupt. Better that it be done in the light of day, than pretend this is about school and amateurism.

What gets me about the Forde and Thamel stories isn't that they're digging up this dirt, it's that they're doing so with a pat on the back. Those guys have spent entire careers upholding the imbalance of power between the NCAA/the Schools and the student athletes.

I hope every single one of these players took as much as their market value would bear. I'd love to see the irony of Thamel and Forde being the catalyst for bringing down the NCAA.

It's naive to believe they'll be "brought down". There will be serious changes as a result, for sure. Hopefully allowing these kids to get paid whatever their talents command. If boosters for school "X" can pony up 6 figures for kids, more power to them.

If some of you all are correct in your thinking (hoping?) that nothing is going to come of this, then it's look out Katie bar the door. These high school hotshots will be providing their services to the school that can afford to pay the most. If that happens, what you'll have is a handful of all-star teams and everyone else will be out of luck.

Sam Vencenie points out that he has a problem with Yahoo! naming certain players.

I thought the same. I've seen Miles Bridges' photo on many of the articles this morning. Bridges allegedly went to one meal totaling about 60 bucks.

That's a pile of horse manure.
