1. John Higgins. 2. Keith Kimble. 3. Mike Reed.
Missed Walks, 3. Palms, .
Elite 8 game between two storied programs.
It didn't look like this crew was mentally prepared for this important game. Hustle, floor coverage and switching was good. but off ball coverage was lacking. All three officials seemed to lose concentration at times, with Mr Higgins continually turning his back on players as he moved up and down court, especially when at C position. These teams deserved 3 totally engaged officials, but this crew fell short. A regional final deserved better, but both teams suffered. Here are several observations and opinions.
Higgins; When you tossed the ball and shied away from the jumpers, you looked very aware of your self. I can't remember the last time I saw that.
Reed; On sideline OOB, ball was off #13 blue and you gave the ball to blue. ?
Reed; On basket interference call, in slomo frameXframe, the ball was in the cylinder when touched.
Kimble; About the block foul call you made on #0 blue against #30 white. Film clearly showed #0 blue's feet were set and he was in legal guarding position at contact. ???? You looked as if you were not in a good position to see the whole play.
Higgins; You were in perfect position to see ball clearly go off #3 blue's leg, but you gave ball to blue. ???
Higgins; Again you were in good position to see entire play. You called on the back foul on #3 blue against #3 white. Replay clearly showed #3 white on the floor and jumping into an airborne #3 blue who had already tipped ball when contact was made. ????
Higgins: On lose ball, you called foul on #35 blue against #2 white and you were at C position across the court. Kimble at L position and Reed at T, called nothing and both came to you. They had a much better view than you. ???? The hand to the arm was incidental and there was no advantage gained.
Reed-Kimble; You were primary when #3 white hit #25 blue in face. Mr Higgins was across court at C, and came in to make the call. Where were you looking?
Reed; #32 blue pushed #4 white going for rebound. You were in position to make call, but Mr Higgins had to come from T to call the foul. ???
Reed/Kimble; #32 white attempts dunk from rim front am missed initial attempt. The he pulls the rim down and releases it while ball is in cylinder. When rim pops up, it contacts ball and ball falls through net. This is, by rule, basket interference and goal should have been negated. ????
Kimble-Reed; On shot by #0 blue, #3 white had clear body and arm contact on shot. Verticality was an issue. No call???
Reed; #5 blue and #44 white both had hands firmly on ball. Jump ball??? No call.
Kimble; #2 white took pass from #4 white and moved both feet before beginning dribble. No call?
Higgins; Right in front of you, #44 white jumped with ball in his hands, released it and continued dribble. By rule, that is a walk. No call???
Kimble; #15 blue hit #30 white across arm and face. No call?
Kimble; At the L position, why are you looking up and calling a goal tend? Body contact and rebounding are your primary.
Higgins; You came from T position and called rebound foul on #25 blue against #32 white. You are secondary on that play while primary officials called nothing. ???
Higgins; good 5 second call.
Reed; Very late whistle on foul you called on #5 blue against #44 white. At contact, I saw #5 blue's hand on the ball with no contact to arm. Of course I couldn't see the other hand, but when your arm went up, there was no contact at all. ???
Summary: What I observed was a very ****************y Mr Higgins who showed no humbleness at all, and seemed to act like this game was for him and not the players. Mr Kimble and Mr Reed seemed over matched and as the R, or Lead Official, Mr Higgins looked like he was over-officiating the game to make up for his inferior partners. However, even though they looked over matched, they were better than he thought they were. I can only hope the selection of Final Four Officials doesn't include any from this crew. No crew or individual grade for this game.
