There is a very good 30 for 30 about the fixing scandal at Boston College in the 70's. I think it was the 70's anyway. It showed how easily a couple of players got caught up in it and were quickly sucked up by the mob. I'm not saying Higgins or any other official is on the take but it can happen very easily and would not surprise me if a few over the years have been.

To my knowledge no college referee has ever been charged in such a scandal. Tim Donaghy was convicted several years ago for fixing games. I'm guessing it would be hard to engage refs in such a scheme because you'd have to have the whole crew on board. Otherwise those out of the loop would be contradicting calls.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

BUT, I do think that Higgins has a latent prejudice against UK. Maybe it's something that causes him to "overly" officiate UK? Possibly even in an effort to professionally correct a prejudice he may be aware of, but that causes him a certain level of difficulty because he's trying to not TOO carefully officiate UK, in order to account for the issue. In turn, this could create an opposing effect of causing him to show he CAN officiate UK games without the bias he fears would show if he fails to officiate them "rigorously", and thusly ends up over doing what he tried to not do, to begin with.
Ehh,, maybe my prejudice is showing up, and I'm overthinking it.
Either way, I think the interests of all involved would be best served and protected (Higgins professional reputation, and personal comfort), by Higgins not being selected, or not choosing, himself, to officiate future UK games. Irrespective as to whether some idiots should be more responsible by not threatening or harassing Higgins, the man's perceived credibility with the UK fan base, not just the fringe, is just not in a state that will promote any broad faith in his abilities, going forward.

How quickly we forget. If you all remember, I posted when we found out who the officials were for our game with UNC, that I wasn't comfortable with John Higgins I didn't base that comment on a lack of integrity, UK's winning percentage in games he calls, the Wisconsin game or that I thought he would "cheat" Kentucky. I don't think any of those things apply. I just think he's not a very good official and for the life of me, can't figure out how he keeps getting big time NCAA games. I don't think he's just bad in UK games, and here's why.
I graded the officials in the UL vs Michigan championship game, and posted that evaluation on WCN. This was before ISIS. In that game several things happened that caused me to wonder about him. First, he was as ****************y then as he is now. And during play, he was in the C position and the ball was in the back court being brought up the court. I saw, and reported, Higgins take 6 steps looking up in the stands while play was going on. You don't do that in any game at any level, much less in a FF game. Also in that game, he was the Lead official on the baseline. You all might remember a UL player shot a 3 pt shot from the corner close to the baseline and a Michigan guard jumped by him trying to block the shot. That corner is the Leads primary and Higgins wasn't even looking over there. His attention was off ball, which is the C's primary. Tony Greene, from the Trail position, delayed his whistle and called a foul on the Michigan player. Greene didn't have a good look because he was secondary on the play. Film showed the Michigan player did not make contact, and Greene should not have made the call, but fault lay with Higgins for not looking and going to Greene. I don't think Higgins has a vendetta against Kentucky.John 3:3

Seth Greenberg pretty much confirmed as much.Comment

There was a play in this game that has been nagging at me because I felt I missed the violation when it happened, and I finally had the time to look for it and verify I missed it. I happened with 3:21 left in the 1st half. #32 white is wide open under his basket and goes up to dunk the ball. He misses the initial dunk and pulls down on the rim and as the rim snaps back, it contacts the ball which bounces a couple times then falls through the net. That is a basket interference violation, and the officials missed it.
Here is the rule:
Section 15. Basket Interference and Goaltending.
Art. 1. It is a violation to commit basket interference or goaltending.
Art. 2. Basket interference.
a. Basket interference occurs when a player:
1. Touches the ball or any part of the basket while the ball is on or within the basket;
2. Touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the ring as its lower base;
3. Reaches through the basket from below and touches the ball before it enters the cylinder; or
4. Pulls down a movable ring so that it contacts the ball before the ring returns to its original position.
I feel better now.
