It's definitely true because they have screenshots. It was even on ESPN this evening. My son's basketball team has quite a few UofL fans among the parents, and of course they loved it. I don't blame them: that's perfect fodder for the "UK fans are nuts" stereotype.

It's embarrassing but not surprising. We've got some whackadoodles in the fanbase.

That's for sure, and it is embarrassing. But the UL fans will hush when the ruling comes down.

I don't mean this as a defense of U of L or UNC, but threatening people (property, family whatever) is much worse than what they've done, in my opinion.

Two different situations. Both universities lost some control. This is not on University of Kentucky, its on their fans and probably most of them never went to UK.

IIRC, Curtis Shaw was a pretty crappy ref too. No surprise he would keep one around who is as bad or worse than him.
            Kentucky fan since 1971.

Higgins personal business should be off limits. But he's not just a bad official, he has an agenda and he's a thief. It's understandable for an official to miss calls. The game is fast. It's never understandable to call things that didn't happen.

Wasn't Matt Jones the guy who made that video that went viral implying Higgins has a personal issue with UK/Cal?

Seems to me he bears some responsibility for getting UK fans into a lather.

I believe I saw people posting Higgins' business's phone number over on Rivals before the Matt Jones post.

I thought the first half was brutal but overall, taking the entire game into consideration, I've seen worse. I wasn't aware though that Higgins was on the crew that blew the shot clock violation against Wisconsin, however. And it was interesting that the second Higgins was announced, a few UK fans on my timeline started complaining. I didn't think much about it at the time but now...

I don't necessarily buy agendas and so on, but I do think some of these guys may have beefs with the coaches that spill over. Some of the things I've heard Cal was screaming at Higgins during the game suggest that they had some history.

                      Higgins received death threats.

It's interesting where O'Neil chooses to put the quote from Cal after the game. Almost like a line is being drawn from Cal's comments to fans' reactions.

An NCAA referee has met with law enforcement regarding death threats he has received from Kentucky fans following the Wildcats' loss to North Carolina in the Elite Eight.

                        ^^
Of course they're gonna do that. Some people are idiots and take things too far. Jeff Goodman and others take crap everyday on twitter from UK fans - they'd love to paint us as crazy idiots.

It's a shame all this is happening. I would expect Mr Higgins to excuse himself from working any UK games in the future, but I wonder if it will happen from his side. At the very least, supervisors and assigners would be smart enough to eliminate him from working any UK games, although there is no "scratch list" any more. Do any of us have an "agenda" not just against Higgins, but all officials? I have a brother who does.

You're surprised O'Neal, Forde, and Goodman would fire out all these stories? Regarding death threat allegations from a "source" in Goodman's report....I'll wait until proof and confirmation comes from law enforcement....

Not saying it didn't happen, but I would not be surprised if this trio sensationalized this story to the fullest.

I'm not talking about Higgins, or anyone else specifically, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that some officials bet on games they're working.

Whoa. This thread just took a turn.

Who was the NBA ref who was banished for betting on games a while back?
