That's a "I realize I shouldn't have kicked out Kentucky's best offensive player so let me make up for that" call. That's simply a bad call. If that wasn't a textbook tackle I don't know what is.

Refs are absolutely atrocious. I’ve lost interest.

Barker is the back up but I would like to see Hoak at least get some snaps.

And that is an indictment of this staff, IMO. Hoak is the better player.

But, who knows? Maybe Barker will be dynamite. He has been his whole caree... well, no he hasn't.

I'm not up on all of the rules. Can you get a penalty for what you say to the ref when he is on your sideline like that?

OK, after some searching here is the rule from the NCAA Rule Book.

Contacting an Official
ARTICLE 4. Persons subject to the rules (Rule 1-1-6) shall not intentionally contact a game official forcibly during the game. PENALTY— Unsportsmanlike conduct. Administer as a dead-ball foul. 15 yards from the succeeding spot and automatic disqualification.

The word forcibly is why I feel this was wrong. Benny did contact the official, but there was nothing forcibly about it.

You have to remember, I'm a retired official. You said nothing about speculation in your original post, you indicated that was what was said.

Even KY Governor Matt Bevin is saying that these refs are the worst. He said on twitter that this maybe the worst officiating he has ever seen in a college bowl game. You know its bad when the Pols are complaining about the officials.

Agree-ish...you can clearly also see him saying something to the ref. That could (and likely) played into it as well.
