Now, How Do We Get to Six Wins?

We're already halfway to bowl eligibility, and with Eastern Michigan and Mizzou coming up soon, we should get to five wins before we know it.

After that? Things get a little harder to predict.

I'll never pick a win against Florida until we show we can do it. Miss. State may very well be the second-best team in the SEC. UT's always UT against us, so no matter how down they may seem, they still tend to find a way. Vandy's looking pre-tty good, themselves, and we have to play there.

So where do we get that sixth win? Ole Miss? Steal one somewhere else? Ugly as its been at times, we do look improved, but a quick look at the schedule suggests that bowl eligibility is still going to be tough to achieve.

Oh we're getting to six. Only question is if we can get to eight.

Solid defense. Weakish SEC. Favorable schedule. A lot of experience all over the field.

This team is a notch better than last year's 7-win team I think. We're beating the dog piss out of Missouri. We're beating Tennessee. And I think we're beating Louisville.

Next week is very winnable but as we all know, we're cursed. It takes a lot more than great play on the field to break a curse.

The best way after the two games you mentioned is probably beating Ole Miss. After that it will be tough. I never count on any win for UK football after watching them for over 45 years. So for me, just get to six and the go from there.

The back half of the schedule is clearly tougher than the front half. Vandy, Ole Miss, & Louisville are reasonably winnable but State, UGA, and UT less so. I predicted seven wins in the regular season, and I'm sticking to it for now. Beat the Gators this Saturday and I bump it to eight.

We're definitely not playoff caliber team but we're going in the right direction. If everything falls into place just right we could have a special season.

That's easy. Win the next three.

Just keep winning and bowl eligibility will take care of itself.

We have a defense that is very stingy in the run game. We have a running game that exerts its will on the opponent. We have a QB that knows how to win. We have a veteran team and veteran coaches. We have solid special teams. We have more depth on both sides of the ball than I can ever remember. We have recruited the last five years at a level not seen by this program - ever. We have won 3 of our last 4 away games and 8 of our last 11 regular season games.

We are entering a new era and the quicker folks get up to speed on this, the more they will enjoy it. We can beat anyone on our schedule.

                Expect to win.

Stephen Johnson is 10-4. Wouldn't that be a great record for a season? (9-4 or 10-3, a record like that has a chance at the 14th game).

At this point in the season, I'd group our opponents this way, in terms of difficulty, or lines, or likelihood of winning:

                      Eastern Kentucky

                      Missouri
                      Eastern Michigan

                      Southern Miss

                      Ole Miss
                      South Carolina
                      Vanderbilt

                      Tennessee
                      Florida

                      Louisville

                      Georgia
                      Mississippi State

I expect Ole Miss to be inconsistent and dangerous. Vanderbilt won't be easy. Tennessee and Florida have some major vulnerabilities. Kentucky can beat any of them with a good game. The last three are not out of the question, though Kentucky will likely be a significant underdog on its trips to Georgia and Mississippi State. But stranger things have happened. Few would've predicted UK's 2009 road wins at Georgia and Auburn, for instance.

Ole Miss ans MSU look really hard, but we are halfway there. I feel we can get 8 wins.

Miss St for sure look hard. Not so sure about Ole Miss. They lost to a Cal team that was expected to be mid lower part of the Pac-12. With all the problems there, they could fall apart before our game.

I suspect someone, somewhere must have said this before: one game (win) at a time.
