I use that on my wife a lot. You can get away with it when you're 72 years old.

        3. Walmart
        4. People talking on their phones (up to their ears) while driving and changing lanes and such.

I've had that happen several times. I'll count to ten and if they haven't moved, I'll toot the horn. I've had about 1/3rd of them flip me off for it. Idiots.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Yep, like they think those of us who do pay attention are the crazy people. I would like to see the penalty for using a phone and driving made akin to DWI.

I agree. It's almost as dangerous.

It really is just as dangerous. Some states do have a hands free law so the driver can't be handling the phone while driving.

I am not defending driving while talking; but I don't believe it is nearly as dangerous as DUI. Smart phone "distracted driving" revolves around texting more than talking. That is dangerous.

Granted on a 1-1 basis DUI is worse. But given the number of occurrences I would argue phones are more dangerous. I drive 100 miles a day and rarely does a day go by I don't see someone who's driving is affected by their phone. Lot's of times to the point you would think they WERE drunk.

Behind a guy in a RAM Truck on the way to work yesterday a.m. at 6:30. Had his phone held about shoulder height reading or trying to text. drifting in and out of his lane constantly.

I've also been in a vehicle with people who cannot talk on the phone and focus on driving - even if it's hands free. As soon as they make or take a call, their speed drops 10 - 15 mph below the speed limit. I check the side view mirror and traffic starts stacking up behind us.

That was kind of my point. There are more of phone drivers and an accident is much more likely to happen.

Ok, I don't dispute that. I do differentiate between talking on a call and texting. If one can carry on a conversation with a passenger safely I don't see why they can't do so on a phone. Texting is another matter entirely.

True story - when I lived in Lexington, I got rear ended twice leaving my neighborhood by the same woman at the same red light. Both times I looked in my rear view mirror and saw her hang up and put her phone away quickly.

The second time I had some unkind words for her.

                              Have to stop doing it.

Figuring out how 'hey Siri, text _____________" works while driving has been a huge help, as has having her read my texts.
