I’m obviously ecstatic we landed E.J., but to compare his game to AD is ludicrous in my opinion.

Why? At this point when AD committed, we didn't know for sure he would be as dominate as he was.

I would imagine what Cal is talking about there is Montgomery's skillset. I.e. his ability to shoot and handle the ball at his size.

Doubt he would argue that Montgomery is as good as Davis. That's rarefied air obviously.

AD was special from the get go, his knack for blocking shots without fouling was a beautiful thing. Also AD grew up playing a lot of point guard until he grew so much which made him such a well rounded player. I just don’t like when a kid is compared to someone of that level because they already have enough pressure on them to be all stars when they come to UK. The comparison just doesn’t jump out to me, but I 100% hope I am wrong and that you guys can call me an idiot 10 months from now!

^ I highly doubt any will call you an idiot. IIRC AD had some struggles in the beginning and didn't become the defensive terror he was until he had a few games under his belt.

Going to disagree with you here. Davis never struggled outside of scoring maybe in a few select games (the national title game being one).

He had 23, 10, and 5 in his first collegiate game. Was a rock from the start all the way through.

You're right. I checked the early stats, and AD had blocks in almost every game, other than the UL and SC games. My mistake, my memory.

What made Davis great, and what so many of these young players can learn from him, was his consistency.

Didn't take plays off. Didn't make mental mistakes. Wasn't bothered by close games. Didn't let big leads go to his head. Amazingly even keel.

So many young players are the opposite. They'll have a great game, get ****************y, and then come back with a dud. Davis never seemed to get ****************y.

PJ Washington is a good example of a player who could learn from that. Couldn't really sustain much this past year even though he had some great individual games.

Ashton Hagans appears to be on the way this season.
