Because he isn’t a good head coach. He already failed once. Plus, I’d bet anything that there isn’t a top recruit in America who knows his name.

Pelphrey’s awful....I don’t want him anywhere near Lexington.

It just doesn't seem to me that Pelphrey has the demeanor to cut it at a program like Kentucky. And for that matter, neither does Travis Ford. And being an unforgettable has nothing to do with coaching ability.

I’m not saying Pelphrey for the HC job. I’m saying Donovan as the HC and Pelphrey for an assistant. He’s doing a decent job recruiting at Bama and I think they snagged one that we wanted.

Not sure they'd make another run at Donovan. He's turned the job down multiple times.

I knew what you were saying, but as an assistant, I still don't think Pelphrey's Kentucky material.

Evan Daniels just tweeted that Zion will announce on January 20th.

Hard to feel great about the timing given the recent news.

I'll believe Zion Williamson goes to Clemson when I see it. Not saying he won't end up there (nobody knows), but all this last minute smoke for them makes my eyes roll a little bit.

Anybody who touts names like Pelphrey and Ford for the Kentucky job are... well, they're misinformed.

ZW is going to Clemson, imo.

Cal is losing out on players he never lost on before.

Will be the biggest recruiting loss of the Cal era if it happens. Some of these guys we're not in on for long; they're misses, yes, but they aren't recruited for more than a few months.

Not so with Zion. This is a guy we've been on for more than a calendar year. Like Trae Young, they threw everything they had at him. And if they lose him to a program that's really never been more than a blip it signals (1) the recruiting landscape has changed wildly since Cal got here in 2009, and (2) Cal has really lost something as a recruiter.

Or (3) our staff simply isn't as strong as it once was.

(And yes, it could be all of the above.)

I think losing Antigua has hurt us more than anything.

I agree, I think. He seemed to be a huge part of UK's recruiting success for sure and a lot of people point to him as a reason we have dropped off a bit.

But, being in STL there are a ton of Illinois fans here. They all think he is doing pretty much nothing at Illinois. Now, it's only been a year or so that he has been there and Illinois is not UK but it's funny that we want him back and (so far) Illinois fans would love for him to leave.

IMO, I think its more that these top line players have realized they can play anywhere and still be the number 1 pick. Why go to UK and fit in with a team concept when you can go to a lower level school and be the BMOC and average as many points as you want? Would not surprise me a bit if this kid goes to Clemson. He can average million points and still play in a big conference.

I hate losing guys who could be the next Wall or Davis, but I have to admit in the larger scope of things I like the idea of a team built on stars but not-quite STARS.

I've said this, but that's the way North Carolina's been doing it. They couldn't get a top 10 player for years and yet almost won back-to-back titles. It was the way Florida won back-to-back titles. It's a proven method.

But: you have to keep them in school. And they have to really be good players. Sometimes a guy is ranked 15th but he's been mis-ranked. If you run it like this where you don't get a whole lot of one-and-dones, the players have to have the chops to be great basketball players, but aren't there yet.

There's some growing pains, as we've seen this year. But there could potentially be a big-time pay-off at the end.

It's kind of the way people have begged Cal to do it for years. I'm just not sure he's doing it intentionally.
