I was hoping that Wynyard would be the guy who played that Dakari type role for us this season. A few inches shorter, but all you heard about was how physical he is, and how he has a decent low post game. He must be way behind.

Great, exciting college basketball game.
I'm sure everybody's made similar points but one thing about this Kentucky team is that they aren't great defensively. No shotblocker that Cal's teams always have, and that allows teams to get to the basket and score on us in ways we just haven't seen much since Cal's been here.
That said, the defensive breakdown that gave Selden the three was the play of the game.
Also thought they protected Perry Ellis quite a bit, but that wasn't the reason we lost.
Tyler Ulis struggled a little when the defense made some adjustments, but he put together about as good a 10 minutes as I've ever seen anybody in a Kentucky uniform do it at the end of the first half. Ungodly.
BINGO.....I said it last night and I will say it again....If Seldon does not get that 3 we win the gameComment

There are really five teams fighting for the four top spots. Florida is suspect away from home so I think we should be alright.
But our schedule is really backloaded with tough road games. South Carolina, TAMU, and Florida will all be brutal.
If we lost those three and won the rest that would put us at 12 conference wins...and that will get us into the top four. Absolutely.
It'll only get sketchy if we drop a game at home or lose this one on Tuesday night...Comment

The Cats definitely weren't intimidated. I'm sure you all noticed that, just before tip-off, they were out dancing and horsing around. As the saying goes, they were as loose as a long necked goose.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

Agreed totally. I knew as the numbers went up that a lot of complaining about the officials was going to happen. I went back and watched again today and watched each and every one of the fouls called against UK closely. I can only find 3 or 4 that could even be considered questionable, and none that I thought were just dead wrong. The simple fact is the Lee, Skall, Willis and even Poythress foul A LOT. Good thing they are only allowed 5. Pretty sure some of those guys would have gotten to 10 or more if they weren't DQ'd.Comment

But what irked me was how Kansas was given a foul every time they went to the basket, and Kentucky wasn't given those same fouls. It wasn't necessarily a matter of terrible calls, it was the age-old "call it the same way on both ends."
They weren't doing that. Perry Ellis became, by the end of the game, essentially a walking free throw. Kentucky drove 10, 12 times down the stretch and just didn't get those calls. The foul that Ellis got late to tie the game you almost never see that late in the game and I just don't think Kentucky gets that same call on our end.
There were also a couple that were called extremely late. Lee had one on him where we literally were dribbling the ball down the court and they blew the whistle.
It was the poorest I've seen since that Chapel Hill nightmare in the Brandon Knight year. That was the worst I've ever seen.Comment

The late whistles drive me nuts. And it seems like its getting worse. I am convinced a lot of times they wait to see if a shot goes. Shot goes = no foul but if it doesn't then they call the foul really late.
I just didn't get the feeling watching it live or on replay that it was all that bad.
And truth be told Kansas shooting free throws may be the reason it stayed close. They missed a lot of them and it wasn't like UK was exactly putting on a defensive clinic.Comment

47 free throws.
47. And to think, there may be some who think there were fouls we got away with.
Maybe even more concerning that, in the face of a game wherein the standard for illegal contact was determined to be such that UK could (some here might argue) and should have been called for enough fouls to have awarded the opponent with 47 free throws, Kansas was able to have played so much more cleanly as to have only committed enough infractions to have awarded their opponent with less than half as many opportunities.

I even thought the technical on Briscoe early on was ridiculous and came very late. Not sure what was going on there but it set a tone for the rest of the night that they were going to let Kansas be the aggressors and Kentucky wasn't going to be allowed to do much.👍 1Comment
