I'd definitely be glad to see him play again....his game against St John's was impressive

With the creation of NIL, I do have a problem with that.
I didn't take, from the link I posted, that he can play but his father is holding him out. Perhaps I need to read it again. The last I knew UK's athletic teams had a team dr. and he made the determination of whether or not a player was able to play. As far as his dad wanting everything run through him, I don't have a problem with that. If I had a son or dau. in their late teens or early 20's in JQ's position I would be hands on as well. I don't know of too many people that age that are qualified to manage their own business affairs.
If we were talking old school college athletics where players weren't paid (cough, cough) and were still considered amateurs....then I would agree. However.....they are now being paid big bucks and are more or less paid professionals. As such, the university paying them is their employer.... and employers have the right to demand work being performed in order to be paid.
Now....if a university can withhold payments due to non-performance, then I'd go back to agreeing with the statement that his parents are well within their rights to hold him out in an attempt to not damage his draft stock and status (i.e. - future contract/payday). Unfortunately, though, I don't believe that is the case (that universities can withhold payment for not playing).

I think you may have misunderstood what I meant. If UK still has a team dr. he/she should be the one determining whether or not a player can play, not coach Pope or a player's parent(s). If said dr. is saying yes he can return to playing and he is flat out refusing, which I don't think is the case, then he shouldn't be receiving pay. If he's not able to play, pay him. Concerning parent involvement, I feel young people need someone with their best interests at heart looking out for them. There are lots of unscrupulous people looking to take advantage of people.

This is exactly how it should be. If the team doctor clears them, then they should play if needed or stop getting paid.

You're right, I did misunderstand what you were saying. Thanks for the clarification. And yes, I do agree that the team physician should have final say in when a player is ready to return, and the player should be ready to play once he is cleared.

Notice pope hasn't said anything either. Kam with a broken foot probably will play this week. JQ with a little knee swelling the last 2 months, nothing.
if JQ IS PULLING ANOTHER SS,THEN I'M DONE WITH POPE FOREVER.

Man this is a sore and I mean sore freaking subject. Kick him off the team suspend the check or never and I mean never ever mention Kentucky tradition blah blah blah and all that ever again if you are Mark Pope....Comment

I was happy for coach Pope when he was hired and I'm still pulling for him to turn things around but if it should come to light that JQ is dogging it and coach Pope knowingly let him get away with it, he should be fired immediately in my opinion.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

While I'm on the subject of JQ let me say I'm not an insider nor do I know any. Unless you are one or know one well enough to discuss this with them any comments one way or the other about JQ's readiness to play are purely speculative.Last edited by Matt Dillon; 9 hours ago.Philippians 4:11-4:13👍 2Comment

If JQ hasnt been practicing and just resting his knee I find it hard to believe its still swollen
But Then again Im not a doctor so who knowsComment

He ain't playing anymore this year. Not sure what happened but I'm sure he still got paid. This situation in college basketball is derailing the sport.
I'd like him back if everything was legit. Doubt that happens.Comment

According to Kam Williams dad JQs knee is still bothering him. I wouldn't think his dad would have any reason to lie about it. I still say JQ tried to come back early. Correct me if I am wrong but he came back around 9 months after surgery. Isn't that typically a year recovery for a basketball player with the surgery he had?
I still say they should have signed him for 2 years with the intent on him playing year 2 and maybe the final month of year 1.Comment
