The conference needs to remain regional and somewhat “southern.†Virginia isn’t really culturally “southern†anymore, but historically, they have been.
Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kentucky should be the extent north that the conference should be. Texas is as far west as the conference should go. While not completely southeastern, it is close.
The SEC does not need to go national, like the other conferences have. The identity of the SEC is regional. And it’s the strongest region in the country for sports. Just no reason to expand into the Northeast or Midwest or Far West.👍 2Comment

I am not for UNC joining the SEC, they are nothing but a bunch of cheaters and we really do not need them. Same for PUKE !👍 5Comment

Then trim some of the fat by cutting loose an existing school or two first. Like I said, there are too many schools already... and the ACC is teetering on extinction, which will only increase the size of the already overloaded SEC. If your objective is to have 4 or 5 power conferences ONLY....each with about 35 schools ..then we're well on the way to achieving that.😞 1👍 1Comment

You have to look at it from the bean counters point on view. This is not about fans, fan experience or anything like that. SEC wants the SOUTHEAST market and a little more. From Virginia down and now over towards Oklahoma (probably looking at Kansas or KSate). They will want to be a super conference just like the BIG 10 wants. Both will be 24 or so teams and will be the NCAA version of the AFC/NFC. The rest will be fodder at that point.
To have the markets of DC / NC / south florida / Kansas / maybe more of texas. Who knows where the SEC goes but they will be going. They want the largest TV deal of all time and the SEC and BIG 10 want to out do each other. It is what it is.Proverbs 25:24Comment

Conferences will eventually have to draw a line on the number of teams they have. 18 to 20 sounds reasonable for the SEC. Going beyond that, looking at the ACC and Big 12 programs that they could bring in, there’s just not enough quality out there.
Also, I don’t think the SEC scales back. The charter members are locked in. I think it would be a really bad look on the SEC to kick out their historically worst football program (Vandy) since it’s the best academic school. Or to kick out UK, their flagship basketball program.
I just don’t see them cutting any programs. If they did then it becomes a scheduling nightmare for the big boys. Do you think Alabama wants to play UGA, Texas, Auburn, LSU, Florida, etc. every week? They need to have some games against Arkansas, Vandy, UK, and Miss. St. to mix in there or everyone in the conference is .500.
The bottom feeders have a place in the food chain. The predators have to have prey.
The SEC has been very selective thus far with expansion. They are only adding really strong brands. They haven’t pushed their geographical area beyond reason.
They won’t expand for expansion sake. They have a plan that will help them bring in more money. They aren’t watering down the conference with new programs that don’t add to the pot.
I just don’t see many schools out there that make the SEC better.Last edited by bucsrule8872; 07-28-2025, 03:06 PM.☕ 3Comment

I was so glad to see that the NIL Donors and the Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have not lost their arrogance and holier than thou ways about them and not aligning with their fan base who have voiced an interest in becoming a member of the SEC. It would be beneath them to be a member of the SEC when they could align themselves with schools more attuned with their academic superiority (they forget/have never to this day acknowledged the academic bullshit scandal that was created by the arrogant aloof fraud Dean E. Smith) and better than you schools of the B1G.
I am all in on if there is more expansion, and it appears that is inevitable, that the SEC expand in the SOUTHEAST. In all the expansion only South Carolina fit that category. I think if you look at the majority of schools in the SEC, mostly land grants/schools of the people, NC State and Virginia Tech fit that bill far better than Chapel Hill or Virginia. I hope that expansion will be in the southeast and think The Wolfpack and the VPIs would be a great and aligned addition.Comment

The most overrated sports figure of my life. And I'm 64. You and I may be brothers from another mother, Clevenger32.👍 1Comment
