If the SEC doesn’t get them, they will most likely end up in the Big Ten. Heck, they may prefer the Big Ten. In some ways they fit in better with the Big Ten. Academically, for sure.

FSU and Clemson does nothing for the conference really. The SEC already has those markets.

I don’t see any other schools that really fit in to the SEC’s plans.
You sir, hit the nail upon its absolute head with that post. I'll only add that U-6 should never be added to the SEC for the same reason you cite the Seminoles and Clempson.

I hope they go to the Big Ten. It would fit their arrogant we are better than you mentality. Those people look at everybody in the SEC as a bunch of redneck schools .

          Yeah.... massively stupid.

The SEC has too many schools already. Are they trying to kill off the ACC? I feel like the SEC is where the Big East was around 2009, and at this rate it will self-implode.

Not a fan of this proposal.

I don't mind it, although I've hated the way the conferences have been going for years.

As a basketball guy, seeing a landscape being torn apart for football is hard to watch. But "it is what it is" (as they say), so if the SEC has to take on the remnants of an obviously collapsing ACC, I'll take a basketball school.

The SEC has the media market and deals with the major sports networks where expansion will bring them more revenue. I’d love to have another basketball first type school in the mix!

Then trim some of the fat by cutting loose an existing school or two first. Like I said, there are too many schools already... and the ACC is teetering on extinction, which will only increase the size of the already overloaded SEC. If your objective is to have 4 or 5 power conferences ONLY....each with about 35 schools ..then we're well on the way to achieving that.

Now UNC moving to the SEC might help UK in football.
These days, that SEC money is just too good. If you’re in, you aren’t giving that up.

I do feel like 16 is the perfect number, but I understand the conference wanting to add UNC. That should add to the conferences revenue for sure. UNC has a really strong fan base. This would be a lucrative deal for the SEC.

The SEC has been really selective with their expansion. They have only added schools that strengthen the conference the last few times they have expanded.

As long as they don’t start watering the league down with “lesser schools” I am fine with expansion.

Also, the SEC has tried to stay a regional conference unlike the Big 10, Big 12, and ACC. The SEC is the only one of the major conferences that is contiguous. Geography still matters to a certain extent. For the other conferences, geography means nothing. I want the SEC to remain a regional entity, not a national one. Adding Texas and North Carolina and even Virginia makes sense regionally (and to some extent culturally), adding a California school or a New England school does not.

If they must expand, they need to add value to the conference and they need to keep the conference contiguous and regional.

                      Exactly.

No school would ever want to leave the SEC or Big Ten, especially for the ACC. The ACC will either cease
to exist in a few years or be a shadow of its former self.

The SEC and Big Ten will gobble up the best teams in the ACC and then the best of what’s left will join the Big 12. The ACC looks to be on a similar path as the PAC 12 was.

I know this is about unc, but I can't understand ,why mizzou is in the sec .
they are more like a big ten school. I say remove them and bring in unc , Florida st and NC state, or Virginia.

I’d love to have UNC in the SEC just for the basketball aspect. I’d like to see maybe a Kansas for the other basketball aspect but I know football wise it would never happen

The land grant institutions are Va Tech. NC St, and Clemson. Those have been backbone of the SEC. Not exclusively.

A North Carolina vs. Kentucky football matchup would be interesting. Their program seems to be on a similar trajectory as ours going back to 2007 when we started getting somewhat competitive again
