4. Jon Hood Senior year. Finally towards the end he started getting some clock and was solid in spot minutes.

Wrong. Hood barely touched the floor his senior year. He only got in 13 games and only at garbage time. Hell, we had walk ons (see Polson) that got more minutes than him that year.

The only season when Hood got anything close to significant minutes was his junior year (the NIT season) and the results were ugly.

Julius Mays might’ve been physically limited, but he was still a far better player than Hood ever was.

Back to Mays, advise you go watch Hood vs Bledsoe prior to Kentucky. Hood may have not panned out but 6'6 better wingspan decent athlete beats a 6'1 hobbling overweight midget 6 days a week twice on Sunday.

I just didn’t like him. I understand that he was in a difficult position. I just didn’t like the way he carried himself and maybe that was out of frustration. There’s a reason I said least favorite instead of worst. I didn’t like Rondo either.

I'm not arguing that Hood was better than Mays, because he wasn't. Mays was better.

I'm only going to point out that statistically, the results when Hood played limited minutes his junior year were not "ugly".

Not sure there's enough there with Hood to tell us much of anything, but it would've taken about four Jon Hoods and probably another Julius Mays to help that particular team after Nerlens. They were a shell.

With Nerlens I thought they could've at least made the tournament. I do remember a game at Ole Miss that season that was very fun, and a late-season game against Florida where I thought they played well.

However, if Harrow had panned out they might have been pretty decent. He was very disappointing.

Ya know, I wondered if there was a reason why Cal either relied on or was so high on Harrow (who I agree with you, wasn't very good)....so I checked ESPN's high school rankings for 2012. Other than Kris Dunn (just inside the top 25, at 23) and Terry Rozier (just inside the top 75, at 73)...I really don't remember any of those point guards!!! That was a ridiculously weak point guard class!!! So I guess, in a way, Cal was doing good to get a transfer like Harrow who had starting experience and I'm sure people viewed as having upside....it just didn't pan out.

I didn't think it mattered if Nerlens had stayed healthy...that was a bad team. I think they very well may have missed the tournament anyway. Actually, Nerlens injury probably did us a favor and prepared us for the ultimate disappointment ahead of time

There was an article that came out last year where the writer spoke to a point guard (can't remember exactly who) and the guy said he watched video of great point guards to make himself better...and Harrow was one he mentioned.

Harrow's issues here were mental. Not sure if he could've ever been an elite player or anything, but he had a breakdown when he was here. He's one guy I feel really sorry for when I think back on players of the past. Dusty Mills is another.

That sounds more like it.

To say the 2011 Point Guard class was better than 2012 would be a huge understatement. In 2012 there was only 3 PGs ranked in the top 33 (with the # 1 being ranked #22), and you have to get to # 53 before you reach the #8 ranked PG. And, like I said, Dunn and Rozier look to be the best of a relatively weak class. There's certainly no Kyrie Irving, Brandon Knight or Josh Shelby in that class.
