I've watched Auburn a bunch. Broome gets a lot of publicity but the guy that always jumps out to me is Chad Baker-Mazarra.
Genetically designed for the game of basketball. Almost Rajon Rondo in the way he's built. And can do everything, Swiss Army knife type of player.
But? He's nuts. Like he's totally crazy. Auburn's got a few of them this way. They either come out and are just straight killers...or they look like they're falling apart emotionally and screaming at the refs as Bruce Pearl is over there having a stroke.
I think we can win at our place. If we had to go down there? Ugly. But we can win this game. They're a little nuts. If we keep composure and hold the line we can win it.Comment

This definitely goes down in the books as one of the best performances by a Cat, and you can argue one of the best. Don't get me wrong, Meeks 54 point game will always be hard to beat, but the overall game didn't have near the pressure or importance this game had, not only for UK but also for Oweh's previous team....at least in my opinion.
Although Meeks was born in Tennessee, his high school career took place in Georgia and I may be wrong, but I don't recall tennessee even recruiting Meeks. That game was early in the SEC schedule and by the 10:00 minute mark it just felt like it was already over and at the point the only question up in the air was how many points he'd end up with. Oweh's performance in some ways is more impressive because of the way he put the team on his shoulder and carried them for 8 plus minutes after having a mediocre start and after the momentum started swinging Oklahoma's way. For him to keep his emotions in check and not let the moment overtake him, he proceeded to decide he was not going to let us lose that game and took over. In the grand scheme of things this was a bigger game for OU trying to make the tournament, which they still may, but if they pulled off that win their chances went up much higher.
Also love the post game interview with him and all he could talk about was his team and how important the game was for them and how bad they needed it. Again, not trying to put this performance above Meeks, but man, it sure is in the conversation when you take the storyline in context.👍 2Comment

The best thing about OWEH is we finally got a answer.
Do we have that one player that can put us on his back and carry us in a tight game?
I think Oweh answered that question for us all.
I still don't think we have seen our best version of ourselves at this point of the season.
I feel good about our post season chances but still think Pope needs to get to the gold standard of picking and sticking with 8 guys.Comment

Meeks and Monk got theirs in ridiculous fashion...but it was a little different.
The way Oweh has to score is brutal. He hit one shot last night on an and-one that was the toughest lay-up I've seen a player make in a long time.
It's just rugged, relentless basketball. He's a one of one. MKG-like but more refined in the way he attacks (not nearly the defensive player MKG was).Comment

Any idea what Oweh's vertical is???
At times he just flat out jumps out of the gym.
Was glad he finally got a few calls towards the end last night, refs had not choice but to blow the whistle. Still think he doesn't get enough calls at the rim and you can tell it gets in his head space at times..Comment

Just looking at the NET and Pomeroy again after last night, for what it's worth (not a ton):
Kentucky actually dropped two in the NET...but did get their 9th Quad 1 win. At this same time last year Kentucky had 2.
In the Pomeroy Kentucky continues to improve incrementally. 15th in the nation, up to 61st nationally in defense.Comment

That's big. I don't think they would've given a top three seed to an under-.500 team in any conference, not even this one. That we should've gotten ourselves last night back to even puts us maybe in play for that 3. Beat Auburn and I think we might have a 3 locked.Comment

Auburn is really something. They have won just about any way they needed to.
this crew seems unusually edgy attitude wise. So far theyve put all that on the back burner in order to win.
kind of makes me feel like these guys are an all or nothing squad...final four or better. Just as capable of a meltdown emotionally...but man you can't in any way argue about what this Auburn team has done.
Gonna be a true test.Comment

Oklahoma fans threw things at Kentucky players when they were leaving the court. Almost went really bad.

One issue with not having Robinson, if it turns out we don't: Jaxson Robinson gets A LOT of shine from Brea. Brea pulls so much heat away defensively that Robinson has it so easy to operate. When he's healthy and you have that 1-2 punch, that's pretty deadly offensively. With just Brea there it really changes our identity.Comment

Every road conference win feels good. I absolutely loved that “we†silenced their over the top trash talkers. So much that I didn’t mind the show Garrison put on afterward. It was simply a “you ran your mouth for 40 minutes and couldn’t back it up†reaction from a competitive guy.
However the main thing I think I drew from the evening was Butler, Robinson and Carr are not themselves and likely are not going to be. As much as I hate to say it—a deep run would surprise me. If we were healthy then with just a bit of luck anything could have happened. Now I feel we need an unexpected amount of heeling in a short time frame OR a massive amount of luck.Comment
