Leaving wasn't necessary for him to become a better player, he could have accomplished that at Kentucky. I agree with Spiritof96, nothing is going to improve overnight and he won't get to the NBA or play anywhere professionally soon.

The quitter way has been around for years. This is nothing new. It’s just more prevalent today. Who cares about silencing the doubters? Who cares about quitting on your team? Apparently not guys like Whitney. I wish him the best and hope he finds what he is looking for. To be honest, I never saw “It” in him. Anyone with a smidge of basketball IQ could see that once the ball started bouncing at this level. Man, his HS comp must’ve been complete garbage. That or he just couldn’t juggle the game and the class work that came with it. I think it’s a combo of both.

Take with a grain of salt, but KSR guys say Kahlil wasn't too big on school and wasn't going to class, and was in the doghouse often recently. The coaches expected him to leave, but not on January 24th. They didn't even know for sure he was leaving until after he announced it yesterday. Also, he can still drop his classes and not effect UK's APR.

I don't think Kahlil and especially everyone around him expected much of a challenge in college and assumed he'd be getting drafted in June. College bball was a bit of a shock IMO. I think he's just getting out and trying to start a pro career early. Good luck lol

Kyle Tucker of The Athletic suggesting his dad basically pulled him out without his input.

The Lavar Balls of the world have gotta be among the most annoying parts of being a coach at this level.

How can that be possible? Unless Whitney went along with it?

Heard that. Watched him a few weeks ago against UCLA. Looked like a different player. Guess he hates going to class.

From the sounds of it, this sort of thing happens with these blue chip kids all the time. All of them have people in their ear. There were rumors of this very thing with Jarred Vanderbilt a couple years ago. You’ll remember he got reinjured and basically shut it down in February.

I just didn't think a parent had the authority to pull their kid out. I was under the impression that that was the student's call.

A parent doesn’t and can’t. They can’t call UK and pull Kahlil out of school. However, they can tell Whitney what he is going to do and tell him he is transferring/leaving. And they can call Cal and tell him they want their son to leave

People seem to forget these are 18/19 year old kids whose parents still have a lot of control over what their children can and can’t do.

Yeah legally Khalil is an adult (assuming he’s 18) but don’t discount the sway parents have over their kids, especially one like Khalil who has been told he’s special at basketball for a big portion of his life.
