Lots of consternation in here over a guy that averaged 2 points a game and looked a notch below uk caliber most of the time....

Can't wait till crazzed shows up.

    UK will be fine people.

Think the consternation is about the trend, not Jemarl Baker.

I personally don't care if 1 or 2 guys you expected to be back transfer. Just the way it is. Cal and UK always has the power to replace them and often times upgrade. This isn't the 90's or 2000's anymore folks. Cal is always gonna go after the best talent year after year. If that means it pushes a player or two out every year who See's the writing on the wall, so be it.

In Jermarl's case, homesickness had as much to with his decision as anything.

          Well, sort of.

There are 600 or so transfers in the portal.

But Kentucky's unique in that you have the one-and-dones on top of the transfers.

I'm not going to turn in my fan card or anything. I've said many times that I'd follow Kentucky if they fielded a team of nobodies. But you would like him to be able to run things a bit more traditionally.

In all honesty....twelve players in two years is about the same as my memory serves in the Hall days...usually three senior starters, couple bench guys, and transfers are every year.we won about as many titles.as.well. The under classmen.leave us with that terrible ' what if ' thought.
Comparing Caliparis great 8 final.four appearances show that if.we.like.it or not, he STILL puts UK In position to win.
We are all just a bit jaded.

We virtually had entirely new teams in 2010, 2011, 2014, 2017 and 2019 and did pretty well. Of course, you leave yourself open to seasons like 2013, but the vast majority of the time UK, with Cal, will be a contender. That's all I ask. And we're pretty lucky TBH.

Yes if by did pretty well you mean what they did in NCAA tournament. Some UK fans like the season as well. Watching Cals teams struggle to learn how to play defense and run a coherent offense EVERY year is tiring. This year was an exception in that we beat UNC ,KU and Uof L in the same year, ALWAYS an accomplishment but most seasons under Cal UK basketball sucks till about February. We don’t look very good even though we usually win due to overwhelming talent. In 10 years of his regime I still haven’t really identified what his offense “is”. That’s probably because all of his teams are too young to learn it, and it sure ain’t the “dribble drive”. I would like to see us win a regular season SEC title , something we haven’t done much of lately. I am not turning in my fan card either but having to wait till March every year( if then) to see quality basketball sure gets old, as does trying to figure out who is who on a new team EVERY year.

It’s just supremely annoying that we can’t keep guys like Baker. Quality player that could have been very important for the program. He could have brought leadership, experience , and quality sub minutes. Not to mention being a “glue guy”.

Calipari brings in players like him for a purpose, and it seems like if they aren’t from Kentucky then we can’t keep them.

Saw on KSR that out of 8 recruits in the 2017 class only Nick Richards remains.

                    Players first

I wouldn’t say this past team struggled that much in the regular season.

Only time I really saw them look putrid was in the Duke game and the Tennessee game.

That’s twice in 38 games. That’s pretty damn good.

You didn't watch, apparently. This team had a great regular season. They beat Kansas, Louisville, North Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn twice, and only lost five games. Three of which were within a possession.

Yeah, but it sounds better to say we suck in the regular season.

In fairness to Jload, Cal's had some teams that were rough in the regular season. But with most of those teams we got it together late. And it's not like we're talking a lot of teams or a lot of games.

About half of them. 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018 were all pretty rough during the regular season and had Tubby Smith-like records. The difference is the teams got it together at the end.

But I agree, it's frustrating having to watch a team every other year struggle to win 20 games in the regular season, or go on the road knowing you're gonna bet beaten pretty soundly in SEC play.

Seems like I mentioned us beating Ul, UnC , Kansas in my post and about this year being an exception People see what they want to I suppose
