We didn’t play like Champs. A good HS team coulda waxed those dudes. I wish we had never gone to the Bahamas as it gave the players, coaches, and fans a false sense of security which was quickly wiped out in game 1.

I don't think so. Mega Bemax waxed Michigan, who's ranked 5th in the country and would probably beat us by 20.

Something happened in September - October to derail this team.

And that's the truth, no other way around it. I can tell you one thing, if Cal does leave, i don't want anyone on that staff and that includes Kenny Payne. I don't think we all realized how much Antigua and Strickland helped in recruiting, i also thought Strickland was pretty good at getting our point guards to play the right way.

I remember watching Memphis teams and they played full court press basketball, didn't always trap but played a pretty up tempo style, where is that guy now? Cal's Memphis team blew it against Kansas, Kentucky team blew it against Wisconsin and against WV his first year, whole lot of missed opportunities in Cal's career. Even if we go back to the 90's at UMASS, they beat us early on during that 96 season but did Rick have something up his sleeve the second time around, beat Cal's team down and sent them packing, thank God Rick never recruited the players at Louisville that Cal has recruited at Kentucky. I will still say that Pitino was the best coach at Kentucky in the modern era, hands down, too bad we don't have a coach with the recruiting of Cal and the Coaching or Rick rolled up into one....

I forgot about that. Ok then, a team of HS All Stars. You get my drift. Something has happened.

Interesting point that has some merit, imo. Certainly not going to be a popular opinion. I wonder what a better tactician could do with this group. I've always felt Cal needed the superstars to get over the top. Especially when you turn over rosters like we do.

But I think this team is just a bad mix. Not bad kids but not enough of things Cal requires to be outstanding. There are definitely no can't miss NBA players on this squad (as of right now). I feel some (like Johnson and Montgomery) have great potential. I worry they won't stick around long enough to get there. We'll see though.

I mean that's basically what any college team is. These were allegedly actual professional teams we played and not just a collection of players (the Bahamian national team had a notable exception of missing Al Horford). Particuarly Mega Bemax which is an honest-to-God professional team in Serbia. Not the NBA, but a collection of grown men who'd love to teach a bunch of young college kids a lesson or three.

Cal and the boys got caught up into all the hype from the Bahamas. Everyone was saying we are the best team. Cal and the boys ATE IT UP. We fans followed suit. I feel Cal let his guard down a bit. Didn’t keep the team level headed. To me it feels like after that trip, Cal propped his feet up and ate Cheetos and let his guys poop ice cream. The team was BMOC x 1000 after that trip.

I agree that the Bahamas were bad and that we lost our minds.

But I also think something happened between then and now. Whether that has to do with Quade Green or not I don't know, but I do think Green had checked out on Cal's coaching. The camera caught him on the bench in a game a couple weeks ago and Green wasn't paying any attention at all to what Cal was saying.

I've said many times that I think there's a bad mix between youth and vets on this team. It doesn't explain everything but if you've got a bad array of personalities, that's never good. If I'm looking for a silver lining, as a UK fan I have to hope that maybe Quade leaving will open up things for the younger players.

But of course that's just hoping. If I had to bet, what I would say will happen to this team is that they'll continue to fray apart and having one less shooter on the roster will end up being a negative in the long run.

I dunno, it seems to me that there's something fundamentally wrong with this team that's just deeper than getting a big head.

Maybe we should put Cal up in the stands like he was in the Bahamas and just let the team play....Joe B could use some company...

You may be right Dwight. We are really fractured now. I think it's a combination of both our thoughts.

Honestly starting to remind me of the Team turmoil year under Tubby (2002?)

With the added failure of some guys just not NBA type guys. At least that's what I think. That if these guys don't go pro after one season that they seem like a failure. I HATE this model. Always have. In the back of my mind I always shuttered to think what may be if the plan didn't go as planned.

You are so right Cal doesn’t bring them here to have a college career and improve to be the best players they can and then go pro. We are a 1 year way station ( albeit a glamorous one) till they chase their NBA dream. That is what Cal sells. If you don’t go to the league after one year you HAVE failed. That’s how almost every kid that comes here feels and if you are a second year player here I would think there would be enormous pressure on you to get it done fast because you know there are now a bunch of guys behind you that Cal brought here for the same reason and Cals gotta play em a lot. If he doesn’t his whole pitch breaks down. Quade Green might end up as a good college player some day but that wasn’t why he came to UK, nobody comes to UK for that reason anymore it’s about a quick pit stop to the league not becoming a good college player.
