I think it is rare that a former player has the fire in the belly to work the way elite college coaches work. The transition from player to coach seems to work out in the NBA but my sense of college is that the workload is much greater than what an NBA coach deals with.

Agreed, except that he was the lead recruiter for Jeffries. Not sure it matters but him going to Memphis would at least make Jeffries pause and think, IMO

Jeffries isn't coming to UK to play for Tony Barbee.

Always interesting deal with these coaches. AND the recruits.
truth of it is, how many coaches have truly had huge success with the one and level players?????

I can think of two.

So whoever Penny gets doesn't bother me unless he's a whole lot better coach from the jump than I believe he will be.

^^^ The problem is not that Memphis may become a power overnight with top recruits but that he may take one or 2 of our recruits. One of which we want really bad.

Word on the street is that Mack is UL's number one target and they have offered him 7 years at $7 million per.

It's reported that his current total comp is about $2.2 million and Xavier is willing to go to $3.2-$3.5 for an increase.

I like Mack and would hate for UL to get him. Hard to pass up that much money though!!

Mack is not leaving 3-4 million on the table by staying. Helluva hire by UL if t hey pull it off
