So the Big Name is none other than the blond bomber from Batavia, Dan Issel. He, along with some Big name from UL and another from IU, just might drum up enough interest to get some money together. Of course they will need considerable more than the $750,000 they have now.

And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Definitely won't see someone from IU attached, nor UofL. Issel wasn't chosen because of UK, he was chosen because of his strong ties in the league. UofL, understandably, doesn't want to be in the position again of being a second fiddle tenant, as they were at the fairgrounds. Were the NBA considering Lexington, I'd expect UK to feel the same way, and be disappointed if they didn't.
Don't kid yourself, Issel's ties to UK and his name recognition with that school, the Colonels along with his ties to the NBA, has a lot to do with his being involved.Last edited by Lighthouse; 02-16-2018, 10:32 AM.John 3:3

They definitely need another tenant - whether it's the NBA is debatable. There's been discussion on local radio about trying to bring a hockey team in. Stranger things have happened. Hockey in Nashville? Southern California? Who'dathunkit. I sort of understand Florida, because the state is littered with northeastern retirees.Extremism is so easy. I believe for this idea to ever get off the ground, someone with a background from all 3 schools will have to be interested, and the team will have to have players from these schools plus be competitive. I'm a doubter because I really don't think they will ever get enough money together to even have a shot at getting a team. And, the size of the TV market here probably isn't big enough.
The bigger thing is that they're not poo-pooing the plan. I'm not sure it's ever been a necessity in other communities that the local universities be active in promoting it, just don't be active in criticizing it.Extremism is so easy. I just don't think there's a need for the local universities to be on board. If they are, that's great, but not a requirement. We might see Calipari supportive of it because it's not in his backyard.

^ I didn't think they were right. As for the NBA Franchise, I doubt it happens because I really don't think Louisville and the surrounding area will support a team enough for it to be successful. Now if their roster was all UK, UL and IU players, it might be different.Comment

NBA has 30 teams. I guess it's conceivable they could go to 32 as their popularity is on the rise. NFL is the nation's most popular pro league but in the under 20 crowd the NBA rules.
Still it's more likely that Lville would get another look next time a current team gets fed up with lack of support in their current market. Of course that means you're likely looking at a weak team. But--might as well start somewhere.Comment

I think you're exactly right. ESPN will do anything to help Duke and hurt UK. Fake news is not always telling false stuff, but also not telling the whole story.John 3:3

CJ makes this possibility look pretty bleak. Pitinr & Jurich are gone but the stranglehold they put on the YUM makes it all but impossible to bring in the NBA even though it would help the city--and probably tremendously so. Went on to say they could renovate Freedom Hall for 3-5 hundred million to attract a team. I'm sure the taxpayers will jump at that while already strapped paying for YUM.
Jurich's effects will linger for generations. To the pleasure of most Card fans.Comment

So, if we get an expansion team, are they the Colonels? They can't be a bird or cat and the colors can't be red or blue. The team would have to be something neutral in this state like a green and yellow horse.Comment
