I love a nitro ale, particularly if I'm going to have a few, lol. It sits in the tummy a little easier than a bubbly beer.

        Bump.

Of late, I actually like Samuel Adams' Cold Snap. It's a white ale which is widely available. Pretty tasty!

Not a bad one for sure.
If stouts are your thing, be sure to check out West 6th Snake Eyes. I thought Bells Expedition Stout, Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, and Founders Breakfast Stouts were the best I have had until I had the Snake Eyes. Those others I listed are world class stouts. West 6th has made a dang fine stout and it's now my favorite.

Just remember to pour it in a glass. A tulip is best and let it warm up a bit. Like wine, you always give a stout time to breathe. It just tastes better that way. If skeptical, drink one ice cold from the can. Then pour one in the glass and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. It makes all the difference. I am not a pretentious beer snob. Let's just get that out of the way right now, lol.

Snake Eyes are sold in 4 packs only and will set you back about $10. It has an 11% abv so go easy. If you don't know anything about West 6th, they are brewed in Lexington and only come in cans.

You have to go easy on stouts. Unlike pilsners, the "feeling" takes much longer. Some people like wine with their meals. Give me a stout with a hearty meal, preferably bbq.

Stone’s Imperial Russian Stout was my favorite a few years back, but I’ve since shied away from the style. Unfortunately not available at my local store. Might have to make a trip to Lexington with cooler in tow.

While a good brew, Stone's can't hold a candle to the brews I mentioned, especially West 6th.

I'm gonna miss this thread and everything in it. Since I had to go GF, my beer options are very limited. Daura is okay, I guess.

Guess I'll just have to drink more whisky, instead.

                      What does GF mean, Downes?

Gluten-free. Discovered a food allergy last fall.

Trust me: I didn't want to do it. I love gluten.

The Wife has been GF for about 5 years now. She is not a drinker at all but on occasion she will have one of those Angry Orchards. Not bad.

My wife went GF about 6 or 7 years ago - the world has a changed a whole bunch in that time and there are truly good options for almost every food. She was never much for beer anyway so that was no big loss.

Have you had the New Belgium gluten free beer? I think it's called Glutiny. I was going to get it at super bowl to make GF beer cheese, but I ran out of time.

I'm leery of it. I've been told that it is and isn't exactly gluten-free - that there's still gluten present, with an additive that prevents allergic flare-ups. Early on when I was testing out the new diet, I decided to take a chance on a regular beer; I took three sips before I knew something was wrong. Wouldn't wish the resulting weekend on anyone.

I've been extremely cautious since then, and if there's any chance that New Belgium's offering wouldn't work for me, I don't want any part of it.

Good to know (and sorry about the bad results).
