Restrepo- caught this documentary on Netflix. It's about a platoon of soldiers trying to take the Korengal Valley during the Afghan War. This was a fascinating film. What made it so great was that the film makers are allowed to get so close to these guys. I feel like I came to know a lot of these guys. There is humor, sadness, and just an overall appreciation of what these guys do to allow us the freedoms we have. This is one of the best war documentaries I have ever seen. If you have Netflix, this is a must see.

Based on the book by Sebastian Junger.

Junger is famous for his book A Perfect Storm, but I really loved his true crime book A Death in Belmont. It's about the Boston Strangler case and how his mother actually hired the Boston Strangler as a handyman back in the '60s or '70s and the guy becomes close to Junger's family. Strange and amazing.

The trailer for Lego Batman Movie is great. I had no idea this was even a thing and was pleasantly surprised when the trailer was pretty awesome. Looking forward to this one next year.

The Lego Movie was awesome and Batman had a role in it. His scenes were really funny. Give that movie a try to get an idea of what you will be seeing.

                Batman v Superman

                1.5/5

So disappointed in this one. Such potential that was wasted. I don't have time to put much thought into the post, but that lines up with the movie, so that seems about right.

Fantastic Lies- this is the ESPN 30 for 30 film on the Duke lacrosse scandal. This was a fantastic documentary. I remember when this was going on but didn't remember all the details. This seemed to play out like a movie. A courtroom thriller. It had it all. Three innocent boys on trial for rape. The prosecutor who fudged evidence for his own personal gain. The dirty cop who had it out for certain people. And finally, the accuser with the checkered past who could very well be not telling the truth. Also, this was journalism at its worst. They ran with the white vs black, rich vs poor angle and were blinded by their ambition. I feel so sorry for those boys. Their lives will never be the same. This was a film that definitely needed to be made and deserves to be seen.

Batman vs Superman - I don't read comic books and I'm not too terribly critical about movies about men in tights fighting each other, so I wasn't going in expecting much to begin with. Typical Zack Snyder movie: too long, too much slow-mo special effects nonsense, and way too noisy. Overall, though, I don't think it was nearly as bad as many are making it out to be. Sure, nothing happened for the first hour and a half, but the good stuff was pretty great. Ben Affleck made a perfectly good Batman/Bruce Wayne, the special effects were good, and when it came time for Supes and Batman to fight, they didn't skimp on the goods. Not a great movie, not a terrible movie. Merely decent. In a perfect universe, Affleck would get a chance to direct his own Batman solo movie. 2/4.

Wife and I saw it Saturday night. It's definitely not as bad as the reviews say. I was disappointed that, in a film titled Batman vs Superman, they fight for 10 minutes in a 2.5 hour movie. Then again, Jeremy Irons as Alfred was my favorite character and my favorite scene was when Wonder Woman showed up. Movie was kinda meh for me.

Unrelated to the last movie I saw, until August at least, but I absolutely cannot wait to see Suicide Squad and Sausage Party.

                                Zootopia.

This is an amazing film. Not only is it a good story with a whodunit that could challenge most high-concept thriller flicks, but some of the themes are oddly timely. Timely in a way that you wonder if the filmmakers tried to rivet in these issues in the plot. Even this idea of "predators" that was in the news just last week comes into this movie in an interesting way.

Like all great animated films, the moral message is equally as good as the visuals. It's fun, witty (loved the hat-tip to Breaking Bad), and ends up being as good as most of what Pixar has put out. Highest recommendation.
