In my opinion any coach, including Cal, that hopes to land Wiseman must tread lightly in their criticism of Penny. All I've read seems to indicate Wiseman and his family think a great deal of Penny.

Yeah but that goes both ways. They have a tremendous relationship with Cal and his staff. Ben Roberts had an article recently where the mother raves about Cal and Justus. Kyle Tucker has written about this for months.

So it could be that Penny's attitude might end up hurting him in the end. I do think Memphis had significant ground to make up with Wiseman mainly because of the players that have come out of UK. That's the main thing Penny is up against; i.e. the fact that he has no history of putting players into the NBA. If just playing in the NBA was a deal-breaker then guys like Chris Mullin and Patrick Ewing would be killing it.

A lot of Tyrese Maxey talk yesterday in Indy.

Ben Roberts seemed to indicate at one point on Twitter that Maxey will likely reclassify to 2018. There are other schools involved with him--Michigan State and Syracuse are two; his homestate school, Texas, is another--but both Roberts and Kyle Tucker said the decision is going to come quickly. Maybe this week.

He says that he and Ashton Hagans are already calling themselves "the duo."

Also some James Wiseman talk. He told Kyle Tucker he'd love to play with Maxey and Hagans. But this writer still thinks he'll stay in 2019.

Hagans, Green, Maxey, Quickley all point guards. Talk about an embarrassment of riches.

Remember when we only had Michael Porter to lead the charge?

Need a couple of studs inside.

Washington and Vanderbilt come back we're one of the favorites next season. Or if Wiseman reclassifies, which I don't think is happening at this point.

If both those guys leave then we're going to be pinning a lot of hopes on Nick Richards improving and Montgomery being ready to go from day one.

We've been in this position before with Cal, but it's really stark this off-season. This could easily go hard one way or the other. We could be a top five team or we could be just like last year, maybe worse. An entire season rests on these decisions.

I think he will end up in Memphis but who knows, UK may still have a shot. I do know that if he goes to Memphis he will be doubled and tripled teamed by bigger and stronger upperclassman and he may get his numbers, but still not sure he's the kind of talent that can carry a team to the promiseland on his own....

Everybody expects Maxey to pick UK tomorrow, the only question is what class he'll be part of. He says here he only has two classes to take to reclassify, and those will be completed by June. But the backcourt might be so crowded it will push him to stay in the 2019 class.

A weird thing could happen to Kentucky where it might lose all three of Gabriel, Washington, and Vanderbilt, and simply need bodies. In that way Maxey, regardless of his position, might be an important piece. I still don't think it'll turn out that way but it could.

Now with Maxey (probably) 2019 it looks like we can close out 2018 barring a grad transfer.

I'm still interested in Hagans. We definitely want him on board with this current team.
