Those late-season swoons are indicative of teams quitting on him. Most coaches would be fired in similar circumstances, but Ford's unusual contract has been an issue for Oklahoma State in the past.

Said in that article they locked him up to that ten year deal to keep him away from Kentucky. I guess if Cal had turned down Kentucky and a few others he may have been the coach but it was longshot at best. I know PItino campaigned for him to get the Kentucky job then. UL should hire Ford if it comes to that. Match made in heaven right there.
Ford had Marcus Smart and some other good players on that OSU team last year. They basically were the LSU of 2015. Ford IMO is in the Johnny Jones,Steve Alford realm of coaching. Just not very good.

I'm with you 100%. I've always feared that in the right situation we'd make a run at Ford.

It's also funny that you mention Alford. We had a brief conversation about Mitch Barnhart in another thread a while back, and I specifically mentioned Alford as the kind of guy I thought Barnhart would shoot for if/when Cal leaves. He or Ford would be a total disaster.

Thanks I was on the UK athletics page looking at that schedule and originally it stated those channels now it says "no network"...I'll just go to the March Madness page from here on out. I see we play around 9:30 in the evening.. I hope Bill Raftery is not broadcasting our game!

Again, I agree with Kevin - not stalking you Kevin, I promise.

Ford's name consistently came up on forums for a fan-favorite to coach UK and I never understood why. He got the Umass job because he managed to win the OVC tourney with EKU (only to get blasted by UK as a 16 seed). He got the OSU job because *I don't know why*, his impressive NIT wins with Umass??? I dunno. Ug.

That EKU/UK game was a 2/15 game I believe. And I think it was actually pretty close. Seems like Kentucky only won by a few points and it was tied until late in the game.

Ford and Pelphrey's coaching careers have been eerily similar. And really when you look at college basketball, there aren't a whole lot of can't-miss coaches. It's pretty much the same group of guys every year who lead their teams to successful seasons. There are some new names that kind of flit into the upper echelons (Gregg Marshall), and some big-time coaches who sort of fall away (Rick Barnes), but you're not talking about a whole lot of "wow" out there in college basketball when you look at head coaches.

Which is going to make hiring Cal's successor very difficult.

LMAO!!! Believe it or not, I was in Durham, N.C. visiting my brother and sister-in-law. She was a student at Duke. One of the great games I've ever seen EVER. 92-90 Cats.

It was a 2 vs. 15. Kentucky won by 8. It was a 5 point game with about 4 minutes left to go. Azubuike, Hayes and Rondo were the leaders that night.

I don't have much to say about Ford but I think Arkansas cut Pelphrey loose prematurely.

Calipari leaves huge shoes to fill on his departure, whenever it comes. He is a great fit for this program, just like Saban is for Alabama. Hard to believe UK passed him over for Billy Gillispie. That's about like Alabama passing over Nick Saban for Joker Phillips or Lane Kiffin.

I just don't think either Ford or Pelphrey will ever be a good fit for Kentucky. Neither has the demeanor it would take to follow Cal. Oh, they would have the necessary "Want to," but that's where success stops and talent has to take over.

Travis Ford officially fired at OSU

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Director of Athletics Mike Holder and basketball coach Travis Ford have mutually agreed that the school and Ford will part ways.

I couldn't open the link. I guess he can throw his hat in the ring for the WKU job now, if he so desires.

Yeah, it's official now, but at that time, it was hearsay.
