Yep, you know a lot of these guys probably had no intention of staying in the draft, but why wouldn't they go through the process and make a few more million. No reason for transfer portal players to commit anywhere very early because they know teams will always be needing to fill spots late in the game.

True. He probably played his cards perfectly. However the challenge for most may be the growing to 6’8” while shooting 49% from deep part. And to do it without enticing the NBA to drool over you.

He’ll be a rich man even if he never plays “pro” ball anywhere. The quotes are because college ball “isn’t” pro. Those quotes because it is.

If you are ranked as a top player in the portal, why wouldn’t you wait around until teams pretty much have their roster set and then when teams get desperate, name your price? Law of Demand. Higher the demand, higher the price. Only reason to sign early is if you want to be selective with what teams you want to play for. If you don’t have a preference and don’t care if you are a on a contender or not, why would you be in a rush? Patience pays off.

9 million, if you want to win now pay the man.

Or, you can use the old business model, recruit develop and they leave anyways instead of contributing when they are ready...

Don't know about 9 million. KSR and A Sea of Blue both are reporting Mom had a zoom with Louisville today and their offer was less than our as well as Arizona offer was less than ours. Kentucky also had a zoom with Mom and Jack and Jacob are reporting Kentucky offer went up to 7.5 million after the calls. Said Mom will make a decision by Sunday.

I take all of that with a grain of salt as well as the Louisville insider that stated Louisville said it will be a big upset if they win Mom.

I know Pope is fighting for his job next season but I’d be dammed if I would pay a penny over 5 million.

                  LOL!

Sorry, but to someone who has never seen that kind of money in my life, it struck me as funny.

To people with money to burn, does it really make much difference?

It’s like me saying I ain’t paying over 5 dollars for a burger, even if it’s one of the best burgers around.

I really don’t care how much money a player costs.

As a capitalist, I say let supply and demand rule the market. If you can get someone to pay you a fortune to play a game, then more power to you. It’s not my money.

Is the system broken? Pretty much. But the fact that anyone on the planet gets paid millions to entertain others shows you the system is broken and has been for a long time.

It seems like the least important a job you do, the more you make. Actors and athletes make a killing. Police officers and firefighters make pennies.

Check out “Key & Peele’s Teacher Draft.”

It puts it in perspective. I think it is hilarious, but I am a teacher, so it really resonates with me.

We are getting into NBA stuff now, players making more than the coaches.

                      What could possible go wrong????

Anyways, up to 10 million. Set the tone from here on out, we will not be outbid moving forward. Force other teams to dig deep into the coffers moving forward. I would still assume the BRAND KENTUCKY still generates more revenue than most so we should be fine.... This will weed out the junk.

I think they need to keep things in perspective. Outbidding everyone, to me is not the answer. I'm ok if they fill the need to go higher if needed.

Players persona and attitude matter though. How they interact. How they practice. How they react to coaching. Just paying more than everyone isn't always the answer.

At 5pm today Matt Jones reported that no one knows. Both Louisville and Kentucky have no idea where Mom heads to but both think it will be them. Matt also said UofL raised their offer. Said both have given final offers. But also said no one know anything about what Arizona has offered.

If we miss on this guy, Pope is pretty much done barring a deep run. Might take a Final Four to get him another year.

He better hope the guys he already has are legit.

I don't like nothing about it but it is what it is.

Once you start putting this kind of money in any kids hands, you don't what know you are going to get. From $500k to $5 plus million, think about what you just did to a young kid at a early age who more than likely has had people kissing his a$$ from the 9th grade on once they realized he can play basketball. To actually think you can put a leash on that is dilusional and insane. At least with the top tier talent you still get players who are still working to get to the next level.

I don't blame Pope or any coach for this. The NCAA is creating monsters!!!!

Still, if we want the best players and to be on top, we going to have to outspend until Pope can prove that he's worth a discount to play at Kentucky..

I am getting a bad feeling about this. This is going to be a monumental loss, if we miss on this guy. Devastating. Way worse than Stokes. Most of BBN had pretty much given up on Stokes. Very few of us really felt confident. And most of the gurus were saying KU for weeks if not months before he signed. This one is the opposite. Everyone is saying we are going to get him, so if we don’t, it’s going to really sting. Pope will have no wiggle room this season, and he could be out the door before the season ends if he is losing games.

Pope is going to go down in history as one of the biggest miscues ever for UK.

I don’t blame Pope, I blame Barnhart. He should have never put Pope in this position this early in his career. He is in way over his head. I hate it because he is one of us. He bleeds blue.

Barnhart is to blame for this whole mess.
