    Momcilovic = $6M Man?

    ESPN speculating that it might take $6M to land Momcilovic. Is anyone in CBB worth that much? Especially if Moreno comes back, is he still a 'must get'? If he's that good, why is the NBA not throwing truckloads of Benjamins at him? I know I'm stuck in the 'old ways', but I just can't see him (or anyone else, for that matter) being worth $6M for a single season. An off year, a system mismatch, a nagging (or worse) injury, different style of play in new league (and officiating), etc. - any and all of those are possible and, if they occur, we would be wasting money. If he's THE ingredient between mediocrity and FF, then perhaps he is worth it. But, just from reading evaluations from a few different sources, it seems like he's a good, but not great, player.

    How much is left in the 2026 Portal budget I wonder? How desperate is Pope and staff? Adding a shooter with his size will win us some ballgames. Losing a player with his game will cost some ballgames. At this point, it's hard to pass on a sharpshooter like he is. I say go for it and pray he doesn't get hurt.

      ESPN knows that Momcilovic is a Kentucky lean, and ESPN (I'll stop just short of saying "hates") doesn't like Kentucky very much....so of course they're going to spout off nonsense like that. If he was a Duke lean does anyone think they would be throwing out numbers like that?

        It’s worth it to me for really rich people and large companies to spend the $6 mil. on him. It’s not like they’re choosing between spending it on UK sports or donating it to a homeless shelter. Or at least not to my knowledge. If they are, then by all means feed the poor.

          ESPN is useless in every way except being able to watch games

            I think the worth thing is like in my line of work. I do not do national accounts typically (meaning a company from California calls and wants me to do work from a local branch). But if they are willing to fork over more than typical market value for my services then we will discuss and come to terms.

            No, no college player is worth the money they are getting. But if you are one of the best 6'8" shooters and the NBA states you are too slow and we are not drafting you, then your worth is up for grabs. Does he get 6 or up to 8 as some are trying to say (probably crap from his agent). No I do not think he gets that much. Does he get 5.75 million, probably so (as there are several out there that have the $$$ and can pay, including UK). Is Moreno trying to test if he can get UK to pony up a dollar or two more, sure again probably from agent.

              Pope has openly stated we have the Stokes money set aside. I think UK still has that pool. Will they throw it at the guy. My guess is yes. How much is in that set aside, if we are to believe what we heard it was upwards of 7 million. I think almost 6, 5.75 gets the guy here (if he wants to be here). I know no amount of money would allow me to play for Duke, UofL Florida, Vandy, if I were a player today or back in the day when I played football. I would (I think because I am fairly old school) would play for UK for 3 million if one of those teams were to offer 5 million. Sometimes it is not about the money. You have to want to play for a team. I think that was some of the trouble with the team last year. They got the money they wanted and some had good intentions but just did not have their heart in playing for KENTUCKY.

                I said in another thread that if.....Malachi Moreno and Milan Momcilovic both end up at Kentucky this year....Mars, Inc. (the parent company for M&M's) should be a big NIL donor for UK basketball. I can hear constant references to M&M's and see large cardboard cutouts of the M&M's spokescandies characters displayed throughout Rupp at home games.

                  On the candies they need BBN on one side and in university script the MM. Royal Blue and White mix could sprinkle a few yellow from the original colors or UK. Would be a hit for sure. Have the peanut shaped one with a fro like Moreno and then the shorter being Mom on the cutouts.

                    I agree with this Cawood,years ago ESPN use to be a good sports network but for some time now it has gone to crap.Even trying to watch a basketball game is annoying due to games usually overrunning due to scheduling them too close.

                      I mute their announcers usually unless it's the SEC Network.
