JONESLAB, huh? Wow....I had numerous interactions, bantering back and forth with JONESLAB....as recently as a few weeks ago, about the time that Matt Colvin became DA#23 and then took a hiatus.
I've got to think....as active as they both were for well over a decade (or two!) in this forum....that they're just taking some time off. I can't believe they'd both just "disappear". Those two could be guaranteed to carry on, even during down times...which does make their absence pretty interesting. Hopefully they're just on vacation.....
Unless something popped off behind the scenes that totally went off the rails, can't imagine 20 year vets would just disappear unless they were able to get 20 years in pension insurance and retirement plan to walk away lol lol lol lol...
I have to be honest, on slow times on the forums I would start some crap with Will Kck Matt the whole bunch just to turn a 1 page forum post into a wild 50 page classic lol lol lol..
I still think OWEH is a SG in Mark Pope's Kentucky 3 guard offense but will concede he does play the 3 role here more often than not but on the next level, he's a 2G if he makes it I will take that to my grave.....👍 1Comment

I'm back. Took a break for a bit, but let's roll!
I couldn't get back into RRS. Grrr. That email and password were from over a decade ago! Lol👍 5Comment

I think we'll start the year with a lineup of Lowe, Aberdeen, Oweh, Dioubate and Garrison....but I'm not convinced that sticks. After all, Pope began the year as a starter on the '96 National Championship team...but was moved to the bench in order to insert Anthony Epps into the starting lineup because Pitino liked Epps at the point more so than Delk (thought he was a better 2 Guard) and liked Pope's energy and what he brought as a big and 6th man off the bench.👍 1Comment

I could not get on here for about a month because of some of the changes they made. Was not something I done but the changes knocked me off for some reason. I am so ready for basketball to start.👍 2Comment

I agree. While I agree with the masses that Pope brought Aberdeen in to start....I'm not convinced that he will start....the entire year, that is. I think it depends on how guys are playing, and the overall effect. For instance, I agree that Oweh probably has more effect as a SG... and I'm liking what I'm seeing from Kam Williams. I could see Williams starting at the 3 easily. If Pope likes what Aberdeen brings off of the bench, I could see him being a backup GUARD... playing both the point and some 2.

Yeah, it took me a minute to figure out who Will was or what happened? I went back to the Good bad and Ugly game reports and saw it was under JonesLab, then I knew.

I think he’s in a reduced role this season.
He’s undersized at the 3 and there’s options now where there wasn’t last season.
I don’t know if Oweh can pass or not. He’s an unwilling passer.
He’s not a good ball handler either.
He is an above average defender. So maybe that gets him minutes if the other 3’s don’t guard.

I definitely will agree with your comment that he is an unwilling passer, though. I'm really hoping that most of the feedback he got from NBA scouts during the draft combine process was to work on his passing. I couldn't tell you how many times last year he'd drive to the basket and have a teammate wide open in the corner for a 3 and he'd still put up a shot at the rim. He was like a running back hitting the hole looking for daylight...to score. Not pass. So I agree and hope that's one area we see improvement on.👍 1Comment

He can shoot, he's just not the most polished or natural shooter...but the results are there. And while he has three point range, it barely extends to the 3 point line but not beyond it. He doesn't have deep range, like most natural shooters.
His minutes will be there. If he has a reduced role it may be a slight dip in scoring, since there is more competition for points since the depth is improved this year.

The problem is making them. He doesn’t make shots. He doesn’t even make lay ups.
If he doesn’t dunk it he misses.
He misses at least one dunk a game.
He’s a good driver. He is a good defender. He makes a good percentage of his free throws.
But there’s a reason he’s still in college.
He’s tried out for the NBA 3 times.Comment

Since SG is shooting guard and Oweh can’t shoot I just can’t see how he plays there.

At times, I think he's selfish but then again, last year he went from being a team role player to being the guy that had to carry the team on his back with all the injuries, maybe his mentality had to change, i don't know.
I think his jump shot can and will improve, he doesn't have Rondo or MKG problems at this level.
Still i like that fact that when you need a tough bucket, he's the guy that can get that bucket in my opinion.
Regardless, we are in good hands this year with depth.

All I can say is that Owen vs. Oklahoma is as good as it will ever get in a college basketball game, that dude was a man child.

We had to do some crazy things last year, Amari bringing the ball up, because of a lack of troops.
I’m not sure waft Oweh’s role will be this season.
But if he’s our goto player this season I’m afraid it look just like last year.

Let's not get carried away now.
Last year's stats:
Field Goal Percentage - .492
3-Point Field Goal Percentage - .355
For hyperbole effect, you did good. Exaggerated to a ridiculous degree. Very entertaining. But the truth is the numbers indicate a much different story.
Free Throw Percentage - .776
Yes, he did.
Jaxson Robinson wasn't drafted, but he could shoot. Matter of fact he signed with an NBA team as a free agent after the draft. And he went through the exact same NBA draft combine process last year that Oweh did this year.
Is Otega Oweh a perfect player? Please....let's not be silly. But is he the SEC preseason Player of the Year favorite? Yes, he was recently named that. And is he considered one of the top Shooting Guards in college basketball this year? Yes....Sports Illustrated listed him as the #1 Shooting Guard heading into this season:
Led by Kentucky’s Otega Oweh and BYU’s Richie Saunders, these scorers could elevate even further this season.
So let's keep things in perspective and try to avoid being overly dramatic.

I agree he was terrific at times. And his role certainly changed due to injuries.

If this team stays healthy, their ceiling is much, much higher.
If that team had stayed healthy, I firmly believe that they would have made the Final Four.
Unfortunately, thems is the breaks."I am the punishment of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."
