There's a lot of spinning plates re: Jelavic, and everybody involved is handling it with kids gloves.
What’s so different between Andrija Jelavic and Big Z? They’re both from Croatia, right?

There were two discrepancies with Big Z: an issue with one of his English courses clearing, and the fact that he received stipends playing professionally. The NCAA has changed it's bylaws regarding the "professional" issues in the interim.

Also, he came to Kentucky during the Biden admin, when immigration status was clearly not a concern to... well, anybody.

Is there a credible source saying that Andrija Jelavic case is definitely an immigration thing? Or is Matt Jones the only source?

I don't care either way. I'm just sharing the information. And, frankly, whether you like this administration or not, it sounds pretty on-brand.
          Ok. I like you.

Kentucky has weird luck with these things.

Meanwhile Illinois fields an entire eastern European bloc and nobody bats an eye.

KSR is the only place I've heard that, but Jones said it was the indication he was getting from somebody IN the program. So it wasn't just his opinion he floated out with no basis.

Luckily, though, the Pope team does its work mostly in silence, unlike Cal's later years, when you could get the scoop if you fed Chin Coleman enough Jack and Cokes at Jeff Ruby's.

It truly is insane to see how Underwood has built that roster.

I've seen no fewer than four different dates by which Jelavic was supposed to arrive. Each time one passes, it's met with "Just ironing out some wrinkles" or some other boilerplate statement to placate an antsy fanbase.

I'm crossing into "believe it when I see it" territory. It would suck if he can't make it, but I'm not of the mind that he's the key to unlocking this team's potential. The limited tape I've seen displays a really interesting player, but the key word there is "limited." The guy's still quite the mystery.

I would hate to think it’s an immigration thing. I’m all for removing illegals and protecting our borders, but Jelavic is trying to come here legally and with the proper paperwork. I understand there are NIL limitations and such, but he’s coming here with a specific purpose. Precisely the type of immigrants we want. Now if he gets here and starts screaming Death to America, that’s a different story.

I agree completely! We want the ones that come the right way and anyone coming for similar reasons, should never have a problem doing so!

If he cant play, it puts a lot of pressure on Garrison to get a lot better really fast, or for Moreno to be ready to go on day one. Because we don't know the status or the conditioning of Quaintance.

Without Jelavic, the frontline will be thin. Jones also said that the person he spoke to reiterated just how important the staff saw Jelavic to what they want to do.

None of that matters to Stephen "Count Orlof" Miller.

Would be a huge blow to us if he isn’t able to play.

Add in the uncertainty with JQ and his recovery and we go from deepest team in the country to a thin and young frontcourt.

We would have to lean on Dioubate and Garrison a lot more and Moreno and Potter would have to be able
to contribute a lot more than we thought.

But no one is going to cry for us when they look at our roster and see a four man rotation at the 4 and 5 that includes two former Burger Boys (BG and MM), a guy with Final Four experience (Mo D) and a 7 footer that can shoot the 3 (RP).

So we have a little insurance, but our depth really takes a hit without Jelavic, especially early on while we could still be waiting for JQ to fully recover.

They better hurry up, or he'll miss out on the fun learning about rednecks and fireworks.
