Another record....Kentucky is the first sweet 16 team with -0- returning points from last season.

I wasn't a "fan" of the SEC. I couldn't care less if all of them lost as long as Kentucky won. Only reason I was interested in it was that I felt sorry for this current team having to play in it, although it might've been a reason we were in position to get to the Sweet 16. But also I thought it was interesting as kind of a historical quirk, particularly given how SEC basketball has been beaten down over the years--deservedly so in some cases because of how the league often flames out in the NCAA Tournament.

"Best ever" is always going to be difficult whether it's teams or leagues. I went back three or four weeks ago and looked at the Big East Conference in 1985. (I'm probably a bigger Big East fan than an SEC fan, just because I love basketball-only places of the country.) The Big East that year was not good. It was super top heavy with Georgetown and St. John's at the top, but it was really poor at the bottom.

This would've been the case most years before expansion. I assume we'll have a "best conference ever" discussion pretty much every year going forward. More parity, more teams, more NIL money, way better players flooding out of smaller conferences and into the power conferences. The SEC reaped the rewards from that this year; next year it'll be the ACC, and we'll hear "Best conference ever" about them. It's more the landscape we're in than anything.

But just personally, I did think the SEC was the best I've ever seen this year. That's using no metrics or anything, just my own eyeballs.

It's a good discussion. Basketball can be a heartbreaking game. Michigan one year lost only 3 games. It was Indianas undefeated year. Michigan lost to them twice in the regular season....and in the NCAA title game.

The Big East could lay claim to best conference. The ACC at its peak. The Old Big 12 at one time. It's just the SECs turn...unfortunately Duke looks like it jas grown into what all thought it would be.

The portal has certainly killed the little guys. No more true Cinderella. 16 teams left—7 SEC, 4 Big 12, 4 Big 10 and 1 ACC.

                  Welcome to day 5/sweet 16.

Note: for all the seemingly contrived UK vs {Duke, Pitino, UofL, Izzo, etc} in early rounds, there aren’t any this year. UK vs Tennessee isn’t really that crazy.after UK wins, a matchup vs Houston or Purdue isn’t either. UK already played the other 3 #1 seeds and ended up in the one that hadn’t played yet this season.

Anyway, just a random thought as the action gets started again today.

I'm not looking ahead or anything but just a thought about Houston:

The problem with Houston is how they start games. Every time you look up they've jumped out 20-4 against somebody. I'm assuming this is because of all the trapping and stunting they do defensively and how they just blow other teams back with their defense. But it seems like when the other team adjusts, they can kind of play with Houston. But what they do early in games is terrifying and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them win the whole thing.

I picked them in my one and only bracket.

I wasn’t looking ahead to Houston other than to make a note that UK could get thru the regional without “made for TV” matchups that sometimes seem contrived by the committee.

At this point UK has such a broad tourney history it’s almost crazy to think there won’t be an intriguing coaching/team matchup. Yet here we are.

With this Houston, you have to exploit there front court size in my opinion, like Baylor they run 6'7 6'8 guys in the post.

Let's be beat Tennessee first, then worry about Houston provided they advance..

One other strange record ....has any team lost its last game by 29 points then ended up in the Sweet Sixteen?

                            Just a crazy year.

                              I hope Florida destroys Maryland

Looks like you're getting your wish with Florida.

BYU with 7 turnovers and 1 of 22 from 3 while Bama is up to 11 (12?) 3s in the first half.
Strangely enough Bama only up 11 with 20 seconds in the first half.
