Haven't read all the posts re Cal's statement, but from my vantage point, he has it ass-backwards. Team-Title comes above ALL individual incentives, including NBA draft status. My hope is that he's throwing this out as a smoke screen for not winning the big one. If he's serious, I don't want him as our coach.👍 1Comment

Who ever said that KY Basketball was for the FANS...I don't think Rupp, Hall, etc, felt that way...all this "social media" has led to a bunch of you crybabies to ASSUME/DEMAND that it be for the fans! FANS support and ENJOY their team...you are just a bunch of ANTAGONISTS who believe YOUR VIEWS are so "self important" that you RUIN things for the rest of us! GROW UP!!!to send 8 players to the NBA, not win a national championship. This is part of his players first philosophy. What do you think? I don't see why it can't be a mutual goal of a TEAM national championship along with all players to the NBA. I have feeling a lot of people are going to be ticked off about this and I can't really blame them.

Well I am a Kentucky basketball traditionalist and while it didn't drive me crazy it sure ticked me off. I do think it hurt Cal to lose to Wisconsin and nobody on this board can convince me that he doesn't want to win it all. Still the statement he made was uncalled for and led people like Derek Anderson to accuse Cal of driving players from UK to the NBA. Cal made a mistake by making that statement and while I am still a big Cal fan I am a Kentucky fan first. In my honest opinion Cal is still the best thing we have going at UK and he will win more than his share of games even this coming season. Still Cal needs to be careful in what he has to say.Cal is how he is and says the things he does for his own reasons, alright fine, but in my opinion he should of kept this comment to himself.
"I hate to drive you traditionalists crazy, but I'll say it again: our goal at the beginning of the season was to have eight players drafted."Comment

I just don't know where to start with this rant. "Crybabies", "ANTAGONISTS" ......... Happy Memorial Day!

So is that YOUR VIEW? Is your view important to you? Are you using all caps and exclamation points to convey your anger? Is this considered a form of social media? How well did you know Adolph Rupp? I am glad I have ruined KY basketball for you. I will ruin next year too. I have that power.

As earlier posters have said, Cal has let it be known from day one his attitude about players first and that it's "not about YOU" (the fan).
Before the SEC tournament he said he told his guys to go out and win this (the SEC tourney) for the fans, but that an NCAA championship would be for themselves.
Cal makes P.T. Barnum look like a two-bit street corner hustler. He knows full well what he's doing and that's keeping his brand of "player first" basketball in the media so kids know it. He knows his remarks are going to be talked about nationally.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Because the fans are the ones who buy the tickets and put ##### in the seats. The fans are the ones who tune into a game which then translates into viewer ratings ($$$). The fans are the ones who sometimes hire these grads to well paying positions after basketball is over. The fans and the boosters are the ones who give dollar after dollar and donation after donation so that a place like Kentucky can have top notch facilities to help make the recruiting battles a little easier.

Of course our fan opinion may not mean much in the grand scheme of things in regards to X's and O's and opinions but at the same time, do away with the BBN and why would anyone ever want to play basketball at the University of Kentucky???Comment

This really stands true for ALL big-time sports. Without people willing to pay to watch the best in the world play and to buy their jersey's etc. then Michael Jordan would not have made a dime playing basketball. Those who get rich playing or coaching a game would all do well to say thanks to those of us who care to watch. I do not personally need a "thanks" -- just saying they should think about where their millions are coming from. Most of us would have loved to have the opportunity they were blessed with. In general I think Cal does a good job of crediting BBN for his opportunity and many of our players have as well.Comment

Cal's approach is essentially, if he gets the talent he's after, the rest will fall into place.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I don't think any part of the system is more important than the other.
Without the fans there's no program. But without a great coach there's a lot of apathy. And without players there's no great coach.
It's like those flow charts you used to see in science books with all the parts of an ecosystem feeding the other. Cal is too intent on playing up the players at the expense of the fans; the fans deserve a ton of credit simply because many of these fans that give money and time and energy to this program were around before Calipari was playing organized basketball.
But it's also true that there are fans who believe the program would be as strong as it is without Calipari and/or these players.
Those fans have short memories.Comment
