    More from Cal -
    John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari · 9m9 minutes ago

I'll be honest with you, at the time I may have said nine. My point when I said that was to have them all eat.

    John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari · 7m7 minutes ago

When they asked how we do it, I told them to do this you will have to be a selfless team, share & do historic things on the court. They did.

    John Calipari @UKCoachCalipari · 5m5 minutes ago

If Alex doesn't get hurt, 8 are drafted. We fell short of a national title but this season was not disappointing to me. Have a great day!

Took everything I had not to get on Cal's facebook page and sound off on his *** but after thinking about the reasoning behind this, I think I get it. Only thing I can figure with all of this is that it's Cal's way of pulling in and selling recruits. He's basically telling them that his goal is to make them a millionaire and he's also taking the pressure off from having to win a Championship each and every year on his youngsters. I call bull**** on Cal's remarks because I don't think he coaches not to win National Championships. I just think this is his way of manipulating and taking another angle at pulling in top recruits..

A+++++++++ GOES TO CALIPARI ON THIS......

I hate to drive you traditionalists crazy, but I'll say it again: our goal at the beginning of the season was to have eight players drafted.
He's selling,, leave him alone. I was about to get on his facebook page and sound off but Cal's not stupid, he knows what he's doing. Cal's way of taking heat for his team and the past season that fell short. Coaches may have been able to sell some recruits on that fact that if you go to Kentucky you have to deal with the pressure of being perfect and winning a Championship each and every year. I think Cal's intentions are real in regards to making kids millionaires as well as winning Championships this year.

As much as losing hurt us this year, I think this year's loss was actually pretty hard on Coach Calipari whether he wants to admit it or not...................

          OK Cal, we get it.

Not sure why he needed to re-iterate this again. Slowly losing my zeal for this program. Not gone yet, but certainly less now than it ever has been. But then again, it's the off-season so we'll see.

You know I had this long drawn out gripe about this and I just deleted it. Just whatever. So the people that want titles are traditionalist? There is a reason he came to UK, its called tradition! Cal should just let this go. No need to go head to head with the fan base. Is going pro the only form of success?

Honestly, my first reaction to Cal's comments is don't let the door hit ya in the *** on the way out. If he's not here to win Championships but rather run a NBA minicamp, this changes everything in my opinion. Still, after all he's done, i suppose he's get a free pass and benefit of the doubt. I still think he's using this as a way to put all the heat and attention on himself in order to flip this around and sell recruits and parents on why they should choose him. If this ends up backfiring on Cal, it could be the beginning of the end of the Cal era as we know it. Could be he wants to create some chaos as he plans his exit anyways???

Bottomline, if he continues to recruit the way he does and still misses out on winning Championships, at some point he'll get a full dose of the BBN nation crawling up his back. Kentucky fans are not stupid and we know good coaching when we see it. I could probably name 5 guys that could easily replace him if only they could recruit the way Calipari does............

I feel like I always have to put a disclaimer in when I'm about to say something semi negative towards Calipari. So...don't want Cal to leave, want him to stay forever, etc, etc.

Cal doesn't have to be right about everything, and he's not right about bringing this up to the fanbase like he is. What he said is something that should never be said. He doesn't have to caveat it. Just say, "We had a goal to put 8 guys in." The end. Just be done with it.

He needs to stop trying with this meta stuff. This idea that his record isn't going to be on his tombstone. This idea that it's all about changing these player's lives and nothing more. Just because he's got great charisma and the gift of gab doesn't mean he has to ostracize us. We are apart of this program. We bleed this program. It's not just about changing the lives of the players. It's about helping us through our times as well. Don't embrace our struggles by doing all this local charity work, by talking about how we spend our rent money on tournament tickets, don't go on a state wide trophy run, and then tell us what we think isn't important. Just allow us to want this. What's so wrong with that?

We know he's going to get players and we know he's going to win a lot of games. We know we're going to be in contention every year. So why is he trying to take this away from us? Why can't he just let it be?

That "if only" is pretty big.

Recruiting is the name of this game. There's nothing else that even approaches its importance.

I think some believe that we'll be dominant no matter who the coach is. Recent history tells us that that isn't even remotely true.

My theory is this, that something or someone has put a burr under his saddle, and he's showing the world who's boss. To me, this is Cal's way of saying I'm the man and, as long as I'm the HC at UK, I'm going to do things my way and I could care less what anyone thinks about it.

Except this all started when he said this at some farm convention, which isn't exactly a hotbed locale for top recruits.

                        Very good post.

I don't think he's trying to take the program away from us. Seems like he's trying to change it into the image that's in his head. And Cal's smart enough to know that if he preaches "players first" relentlessly, then he's going to get players and thus the wins are going to come.

But by driving it in repeatedly he's trying to make fans see the program like he does. We can't see it like he does. We don't know these players. We have families of our own. We watch the team and follow the program for different reasons.

That said, we were here way before John Calipari was.

Truth. But the reality is we simply do not know how the next coach will do here. I do know UK will survive it and come out on the other side regardless. I have that faith. Pretty much why I do not panic, fret or lose any sleep over the thought of Calipari leaving.

I don't think anyone could recruit here like Cal does and it is likely nobody has the marketing chops for this job. So in that vein, there is equality in the ranks out there since there is only one John Calipari.

I don't want him to leave at all. Who out there does not like our wins? But poking a stick at large part of the fan base doesn't sit all that well regardless if he is full of crapola or not. Most of us know exactly what he is doing and why he is doing it. Most get it. But I suspect most would just like to hear it less. Just do what you do Cal. You are our greatest marketer and UK's most recognizable and generous face. Fans love him, even the traditionalists. Just don't brush them off.

No, but he knows that those comments are going to get out into the world.

And he's made the exact kinds of comments before. He's always in sales mode; this is just another example.

But since every word he says is put under a microscope and put out there for the media to run with, Cal knew what he was doing.
