I don't see any way in heck Reed comes back. Would be an absolutely terrible decision defying all reason.

I certainly see a way, but I don’t think it’ll be enough - especially if he’s coming back to some random assemblage of mid freshmen and transfers.

Depends on the transfers. UCONN starts two of 'em and they're gonna win the national championship probably. Houston's got one who's their second best guard. We've had two in the last three years who were our best players. I think transfers can drive the bus...but the margin for error is outrageous with that. Gotta get not only a really good player, you also have to find somebody who fits in perfectly with the team. And Cal is going to need two of those types at the very least.

My all-time favorite player here was a transfer: Heshimu Evans. Without that guy we don't win that title in '98.

I have no inside info or anything like that, but I have a suspicion that they might be worried about Reed between the ears and going to the NBA right now.

Had he come here to go pro as quickly as possible it'd be one thing. But obviously he didn't do that. I sort of wonder if some of the stuff Reed has openly talked about with his mental health might give the Sheppard family some pause about sending him out to the wolves.

So I dunno, I sort of think he might return. Just a hunch. The main issue will be if everybody else bails and he's a lone man on the island, that just puts him in a terrible position for next off-season, so they're obviously not going to be willing to do that. If the rest of the crew just rushes to the lifeboats and bails then I have to think he will too.

Truly a lose lose for the kid in my opinion. Either go get eaten up in the NBA, although glancing at his bank account every night will probably cheer him up.....or come back to this disaster, which unless Cal pulls a magic trick and wins the transfer game, could be ugly....but his "legend" status will be heightened and not many mother/father/sons can say that, especially at a college like Kentucky.

So who will Cal try to get transferred in so they can get injured and not be able to do a whole season?

Hopefully Cal can turn into a college GM off-season free agency guru. This is minor league professional sports at this point...

I liked Thiero, sucks to be honest..

I want the very best team possible next year. But does it really matter who leaves or who comes in? We still have Cal who will mess up any team. For crying out loud, we UK fans can't even say, wait till next year.

Remember, Cal coached Thieros Dad, so there are ties. I could see him coming back.

Just saw it on X that Thiero has put his name in the draft and if he doesn't get favorable feedback he'll be back at UK.

I can never blame any kid for trying all avenues.

He's also in the Portal as well. If he has no intentions of transferring, I wonder what that's about?

He coached Wagner's dad as well.

Yeah, I'm not so convinced he's "just" testing NBA waters. Because you can definitely do that without putting your name in the transfer portal. I guess I can't blame a kid for at least looking into better options, but coming on the heels of (points everywhere) all of this...it's not great.

He may want out - can’t say I’d blame him - but in today’s NIL landscape, this might also be a way for him (and other schools) to legally explore bids for his services. Kentucky could get him back, but they’ll have to pay.
