My son and I were talking about each season’s drama and concerns. When was the last time/season that you really enjoyed watching our team play?

      2017.

2019 getting dog whipped by Duke took the wind out of my sails. 2020 became a good team, but they lost to Evansville at Rupp.

Oscar's first team in 2022 was the best team in America in January.

The game at Kansas was a masterpiece, and there were plenty of other very impressive performances that season.

The ending was so underwhelming that I think people have already forgotten how good that team was for much of the year.

It is tough! And has been for to many years as we Die-Hard Fans watch our beloved basketball program slide down. I sure hope this rumor about Bradshaw is just a rumor. And we can't believe anything our coach says.

            Most of 2022.

A few games last year. Eight or nine.

Certainly not enough fun recently, not with as much money as Cal makes. But I do think fans sometimes…um…embellish the badness.

2022 did have that stretch of about 6 weeks where they were elite, unfortunately the injuries started to take their toll.

Fans aren’t embellishing the badness though, let’s get real about that.

I don't think fans are embellishing badness as much as recognizing it.

I will be the first to admit EVERY team goes through spells of being disoriented, and yes that terrible lackadaisical word.

Trouble is it seems to be getting more the norm than the glaring exception.

Yep, 2017 was my last "fun" season. Even that team had a period when it struggled, and Cal botched some things rotation wise, but their talent was elite. Fox Monk and Bam nearly carried that team to the title. Stupid Luke Maye, and John Higgins...

John Higgins, that EE game, and the aftermath with his roofing business will forever go down in UK lore.

Ah yes, Kentucky fans. How we are known for careful, even-keeled, nuanced takes. /s

They are absolutely embellishing. But it’s BOTH. It’s almost always both. It’s both fan embellishment AND total failure by Cal. Doesn’t have to be one thing, one answer.

If you didn’t think 2022 was fun then you weren’t watching. But what does that mean, really? It’s only a rebuttal to justford’s point. It’s useless. Just because that regular season was fun doesn’t wash away the Final Four and title drought.

Well, I'd caution the complaints about UK fans because we sort of allow for this embellishment of a college sport which at this point it is embellishment to have Cal here at his price. College BB is no longer the top sport. It's no longer King, and the next UK coach won't be the highest paid guy on campus.

If you think the fans are embellishing how bad it has been here over the period of the last ~6 years I'll happily list the stats for you as a respectful refute. We're on a slide, things aren't controlled like they were, the coaching and recruiting have fallen off, and...is this what we're paying for?

As to your last point, yeah there was a period in 2022 for about 6 weeks where I thought "We're back, get ready". Unfortunately injuries occurred, a certain recruit didn't play, and we know where that went. The trend though is that we haven't been doing what's necessary not only to adjust but also to help protect against that versus the first ~8 years.

Kentucky is a special program because we care about the entirety of the season, not only the regular season but also conference and NCAA/NIT. Those stats matter. If you walk into Memorial Coliseum and see those banners for SEC titles, well, it's impressive.

It's the totality of the season that makes historic difference. A person can "have fun" during stretches of any season and also realize if things go south, fall short of expectations, etc. I can remember that we lost to a crappy Notre Dame team just before that 2022 team lit up, thanks.

I'm probably the most consistent poster here about how Cal right now is failing us. Not to long ago, this site was full of critics of his coaching and how it was time for him to leave and how he is holding us hostage with this ridiculous contract and buyout. Every team has spots during the season where they play much better, but in the end we have another disappointment. Heck, B..J. had one good game that gave us hope. Who knows how this coming season will play out, and we'll be here cheering and hoping for # 9. GO CATS!!!

Pilgrim followed Bradshaw’s response with another tweet suggesting the threat is still real.

Been this way since day one with this kid. It’s beyond old.
