If I had to guess, I’d say Texas’ first realistic call will be to Scott Drew in neighboring Baylor.

    Almost seems too easy.

Buuuut, if he wants a change of scenery, here's his chance:

      1) Kentucky probably won't be a legitimate contender next year, and if we tank again, the fan base will lose their minds.
      2) Texas has great facilities, can match the pay, and is a crazy good state for recruiting.
      3) Cal is thoroughly miffed with the Kentucky fanbase and would love to flip the middle fingers to the loud portion of them.

This will be interesting to watch as we move into the weekend.
I think there's a very small chance that Cal takes this offer seriously, though it's not zero. I don't know if Cal has a buyout if another school wants to hire him.

But, Cal's getting $8 million a year here, but if he is here for 3 more years he'll get $1 million per year for life. Texas could match that.

Yeah I think similar to UCLA a couple years ago, the call to Cal is merely a signal to other coaches who might actually be interested.

          Goodman mentions Chris Beard.

I heard those rumors earlier and they sound as silly now as they did then. Cal is set up with a lifetime contract that after a few more years will guarantee him $1 mil/year for life. FOR LIFE! Why would he give that up? Under his contract he’s in absolutely zero danger of being fired no matter what he does. The man has nothing to worry about as long as he stays at UK.

He isn’t going anywhere. And while we’re at it, Jai Lucas isn’t going to UT to take Kim English’s place.
I'm sure you are talking about his record here, because there are some things he could do that would get him fired. But Sandy Bell will make sure those things don't happen.

Longhorn Network is reporting that Texas is "meeting with Cal."

Take from that what you will.

It is kind of interesting that we haven't gotten one of those "I have the best job in basketball" tweets from Cal yet.

John Calipari's five-star signees from Texas: De'Aaron Fox, Tyrese Maxey, PJ Washington, Julius Randle, Andrew and Aaron Harrison, Jarred Vanderbilt, Daimion Collins. I'm not saying, I'm just saying, Cal knows Texas produces DUDES. And he knows how to get them.
Man Cal could probably just recruit Houston and stack a team.

Whatever happens I hope that Kentucky doesn't offer Cal more money.

                    That's the only logical conclusion.

A conspiracy-minded person might read the "big things are about to happen" thing with Justin Powell as Cal and the staff trying to get Powell to follow them to Texas.

Because right now, if you're Cal, it might not be.

If Cal did leave, can you imagine what Kentucky will look like next year?

It'll be tough. I've feared that for a long time.

COVID gave us a break though. If Kentucky hires the right person, the talent will be out there to build a decent team without going the high school route.

It could go really bad though if Kentucky doesn't hire the right person, or if we have a situation where our top picks pass and the search lingers on. Nothing can be as bad as what we just went through this past season however.

Ummm, yea, if Cal leaves and takes all of his recruits with him(which he definitely would) and we have a mass exodus that we know will happen. I guarantee you that all the guys that say they're staying would probably transfer as well, depending on who we brought in as a coach.

Texas would throw as much money as they wanted to. If they want to. Lets be honest....big money is big money. After the first few million it gets to be about the job being fulfilling....I guess.
I always thought Cal would want to go back and prove himself in the NBA. Maybe not.
Texas sure has everything someone could want....a state with enough kids to stay in state if you wanted, money to burn, and not the pressure. Football will always be the kingpin.
                                I could see it happening.
