I have a question that maybe we can talk about. There are states that have not taken the same approach as Ky,Oh and most others, for example Tenn and Mo. How do you self quarantine, close stores and businesses and not expect other states to follow? I liken it to having a warm day, opening your windows and seeing a cold front come in and close all your windows but 1. Even after we self quarantine, things will not open back up until after 4 weeks of the last person found to have the coronavirus in the US and any other nation we do business with. I believe in states having their rights but it’s time for the Federal Government to make every state follow the same steps to end this sooner than later.

Americans are by and large uncomfortable with the federal government stepping in and making bold, dramatic restrictions.

If our states do it it doesn't create the same sense of panic. When the feds do it people tend to get real squirrelly.

Certain people in particular. There are folks who will intentionally not heed a mandate if it comes from the government simply because they don't like the very concept of such a thing. There's an American streak of "You can't tell me what to do" that makes situations like this very complicated.

There are several that are asking the same questions. Let's be honest....an elected government declaring full martial law is a scary concept. Getting them to relinquish it is even scarier.

Someone, sometime, somewhere in this country is going to ask an equally troubling question.....IF this virus comes out to the current 1, 1.5 per cent mortality rate....and remains that....what is the comparison with the 99 percent of the rest of the country?

Of course, we all know that if that 1 percent is ourselves or our family, then it's a hundred percent. Still....

Holding at that 1-1.5% mortality rate is another question. Shortages of Ventilators, N95 mask and overworked medical staffs will bring that rate even higher if we allow this to go on for months on end. A lot of people were not happy about the Patriot Act, but it was at that time setup to protect us. Did the government overstep its use? Yes. But it did protect us. Again how do you stop such an invisible enemy without drastic measures? I didn’t vote for Dewine here in Ohio but I agree with what he and Beshear are doing. If you continue to allow other states and their people to live as if nothing is wrong, how long before the masses of people who are doing as they’re supposed to do finally say enough is enough. (I’m already sick of watching replays of past NCAA tournament games)

I'm concerned about all medical staff. They are already over extended and of course 100% susceptible. If they have to quarantine, then what?

We have a lovely thread in the political forum where you can make this case. I'll just say, people, need to start ignoring the stated intentions of a law and look at its actual results. If we are using the patriot act as the standard for "necessary but effective", we should quit right now.

We also were once a nation with governing principles. We have tossed them all in fear of a virus with a doomsday scenario 98% recovery rate. It will only cost us several trillion dollars in the process.

This thread has been for the most part political free. Let's keep it that way. As Spiritof76 says, there is a political forum where anyone can post their political opinions.

There is a thread on the political forum about this very topic if you want accurate information, instead of conspiracy theories only compete idiots are gullible enough to believe.

In all honesty nobody anywhere should be talking "politics" the way JWORLD has in this thread.

The stuff in this thread isn't politics, it's blatant misinformation and almost jaw-dropping silliness.

And that sort of unchecked, I-read-it-on-Facebook-so-it-must-be-true sort of stuff can definitely be dangerous.

That was proven this past weekend with all the rumors that were going on about the National Guard locking Kentucky down. I know people who were either afraid or furious about that. It of course turned out to be false.

You can't just spew information online without being very careful about it, not even on a tiny forum like this one. We have to be more prudent and careful about what we believe.

If you have a penchant for believing stuff that's way out on the fringe, I wouldn't post. Believe it and keep it to yourself. You may turn out to be correct and THEN gloat. But this isn't really the time for random weirdness.

I think it will. But the fear is that it's going to flare up again after the summer just like the seasonal flu does.

I really hope a vaccine is closer than expected, because what would absolutely suck is to be quarantined for a month, go through the summer, and then have to go back into quarantine in the fall. We can't live our lives that way.
