Generally I think we watch too much of the news. It's made many of us nuts.

However, in situations like this we may need information. It's a tricky thing to maneuver around. One has to make this choice about being informed but not being paranoid.

I haven't really thought too much of the virus in my daily life because it seems so rare right now, but it has kind of flared up in other countries in a way that's a bit alarming. If that happens here there are obviously way more worrying things to concern oneself with than the NCAA Tournament, but it would still be a real bummer to see it axed.

The reason the economy is tanking over it is because there's a void of response at the top. The US government's response has been lacking at best, and full of disinformation and lying at worst. You hope this virus starts petering out when the weather warms up but that's unknown at best. Whether this is something to worry about depends on your health status. Generally speaking, the average person who gets it will experience a chest cold and that's mostly it. If you have an underlying heart or kidney issue, or have diabetes, you should worry a bit.

As to canceling events, I can't decide if I think it's a good precaution or overblown stupidity. A conference I was scheduled to attend this week in California got canceled. I'm scheduled for another in July that I hope doesn't get canceled also. In the US because of the relatively low population density it's fairly easy to contain it as long as you practice good hygiene, but crowded events are a problem.

I went to Sams Club yesterday to get some things. I needed toilet paper and paper towels, not because we are panicking, simply because we are running below. They were completely sold out! An employee told me they have sold more toilet paper and paper towels in the last week than they normally do in a normal 8-10 week period.

It's insane and people have lost their damned minds.

Also arrested were two Chinese “Students” working as research assistants, one of whom was actually a lieutenant in the Chinese Army, the other captured at Logan Airport as he tried to catch a flight to China - smuggling 21 vials of “Sensitive Biological Samples” according to the FBI.

Oh, almost forgot. The research lab the good professor had helped set up? It’s located at the Wuhan University of Technology. Wuhan China is ground zero to the potentially global pandemic known as the “Coronavirus”which is both spreading rapidly and killing people.

This is Stephen Coonts international spy novel stuff happening in real life - and it has barely made the news.”
              This has been thoroughly debunked.

^ I don't think that Harvard guy is connected. I heard about the Harvard story some months ago, well before coronavirus came to be.

Toilet paper is a weird thing to buy in response to a respiratory virus.

The Harvard story is fascinating and probably more interesting than the virus. It'll make a hellacious movie one day.

But I don't think it's connected to coronavirus.

I'd love to blame it all on him, but unfortunately he isn't smart enough to stand in a lab.
