As with last year a "side track" thread might be helpful, otherwise this will be quite disorganized.

I think I agree with Jworld. I don't think there's any way Devin Booker goes top 5 at SG in this draft, based on the rules. But because of what he did in the NBA he would go at least that high. At Kentucky, he didn't look like a top 5 SG, over the history of the program. I think the NBA needs to have some influence. If not, you are almost disregarding an entire era.Last edited by uglyduckling; 05-23-2017, 05:18 PM.Comment

We're drafting Kentucky basketball players, not Phoenix Suns players. We draft on what they did at Kentucky; it is what it is. Now, that may include the potential shown, because as previously discussed, stats aren't everything, but we draw the line at graduation and/or their declaration for the NBA Draft.
Devin Booker never scored 70 while at Kentucky. He was a great, if streaky, shooter, who didn't play much defense. Right off the top of my head, I'd take Delk, Chapman, Dampier, Turner, Bogans, Meeks, Lamb, and probably Murray and/or Monk before I'd take Booker - and that's just at SG.
If you want to take Booker based on the potential we saw, then justify that after the draft ends, go for it. A lot of us will be doing the same as we try to grab KAT, among others.Last edited by George; 05-23-2017, 05:36 PM.Comment

If we take into account the NBA careers does Bowie go in the last round? What about Darius Miller? Sparks? Liggins? Hawkins? Fitch? There are dozens of players that were fantastic and record breaking players at UK that never made it in the pros.Comment

Exactly. No one wants to look at it the other way. We start factoring in the NBA and suddenly Delk doesn't look so good as a top-five player in this draft.Comment

Let's get this thing rolling. We've got myself, Blue Heaven, Downes, Spiritof96, uglyduckling, Lighthouse, Friendsofcoal, Kevin, Jworld, Will, and KCKUKfan. That's 11. Did I miss anyone?Comment

You aren't disregarding anything. Wall and Cousins only played here one year. But look at the impact they had. They completely turned around the program BCG left behind. Davis, MKG, Jones, and Lamb go without saying. Ulis is a no brainer. The list goes on. Players can make an impact off of the court and many have done so under Cal. If you choose to disregard the era that's your choice. There's sixty years of players before Cal arrived to choose from. There were 11 of us in the draft last year? I'm willing to bet every single one of us had at least one player that was only here a year or two. I know I did. Not all of us follow or care about the NBA. We all follow Kentucky.Comment

3 of my first 5 picks were one and doners. Towns, MKG and Murray. I picked Towns with my first pick, believe 8th overall, partly because of what he did to the NBA his rookie year. Based on Kentucky only, Towns may not be a Top 5 center. He wasn't a game changer at KY except for the Notre Dame game maybe. I'm just saying I think there needs to be some kind of influence there.Comment

My eye test vs your eye test ain't the same thing. When I saw KAT at KY, I didn't think he was a transcendant player. I see KAT in the NBA and I think once every 10 years. Nothing he did at KY lead me to believe he would be as dominant as he is now. Willie on the otherhand looked phenomenal. How many centers have guarded 1-5 in the history of college basketball like Willie? Willie looked otherworldy from an athletic and defensive perspective. Towns was pretty good on offense and could block shots on defense. Yet, there's not a single person in this draft that watched KAT and watched Willie that is taking WCS before, based on what they did at KYLast edited by uglyduckling; 05-23-2017, 06:15 PM.Comment
