I generally try to look at how teams are seeded and give a take that approaches reality when it comes to this issue.

If the take you're giving is that they were overrated, that's a different thing. But I think a lot of high-seeded teams are overrated. I tend to think Kansas is a little overrated. But I'm not going to try to argue that the seed they got was wrong. You have to reward teams for what they accomplished because if you don't, the regular season is useless.

Would Pomeroy be a more fair way to seed?

A lot of discussion about the missed basket interference call yesterday, and it's understandable. Allow me to explain Primary, Secondary and Off-Ball coverage on that play. Primary responsibility goes to the Center Official, Secondary to the Trail Official and the Lead Official has Off-Ball/Rebound coverage. The Lead official became the new trail when the ball started up court and he called the T. Because his responsibility wasn't looking up at the basket, he had no idea why the coach was so upset, and when the coach came onto the playing surface combined with his demonstrative gestures and yelling as he was, the Official correctly called the technical. Of course I hated to see the missed call, but I was more upset when the NCAA director of officials failed to explain this when he had the chance on national TV.

Probably more fair, but not better overall.

College basketball likes the controversy the human element brings.

Have the humans place them in each region and that still will cause controversy and allow for the money matchup the committee looks for.

I don't know if anyone is questioning the T on Northwestern's coach, I'm not. What gets me is that at least one official should have been looking in the direction of the goal. If so, I don't see how he could have missed the infraction. It was plain as day.

You're right, and it should not have been missed. See my post for the two who were responsible

So you are saying two officials missed the call?

I'm saying the two officials could have made the call, and yes they obviously missed it.

That's better than people thinking all three officials missed it.

I guess. Believe me, they all three feel bad about it.

Which takes me back to a point I've made before: How do these guys get to mess up BIG at work and keep their jobs? If during my school's departmental meeting I give a presentation that includes bad information and leads to embarrassment or failure for the department, I'm probably getting fired - or at the very least severely reprimanded and not trusted with that task in the future.

I can't say, "Dean, I feel really bad about this," and expect to keep right on doing what I was doing.
