I doubt Alford would take the IU job, but if called I bet he thinks about it. This might be a distraction for UCLA. It has to be on their minds.

I don't see the fact he played for Knight being a problem, if that's all there is to it. Just because he played for Knight doesn't mean he's the horse's patoot Knight is.

I'm sure Knight still has a major influence on him and would probably advise him against taking the job.

IIRC, Knight fell out with Alford way back when Alford took the Iowa job. From what I have read in the past they haven't spoken since then. If that is still the case Knight won't be any influence on him. I hope IU takes Alford. I don't think he's that good of a coach. Pretty much in the Crean league. IU will be respectable but probably won't be contender year in and year out with Alford.

I just had this discussion in another group. Alford is very un-Knight-like. His teams -- when they are good -- run and gun and pay very little attention to defense and all that sort of thing. And, you are correct -- his record at Iowa and UCLA has been spotty. The one thing he MIGHT be able to do that other IU coaches have not is keep some of Indiana's considerable talent home.

My guess is Marshall, then Alford. Id be shocked if Billy Donovan or Brad Stevens would give it a second thought.

Donovan is doing alright in the NBA - I believe the Thunder are in 2nd place. No way he gives that up yet.

Two games? We lost to them last year in the tourney, but beat them in the 2012 Sweet Sixteen. Am I forgetting something?

OkCity is in 6th place in the western conference.

But he is doing pretty well as an NBA coach. Most teams would tank after losing a Durrant.

You're correct. I was mistaken, they are 2nd in their division.

I think he has a while before he is in danger of getting fired, and unless he misses college I don't think he's leaving anytime soon.

For IU fans, you have to throw the checkbook at Brad Stevens, with Alford a distant 2nd. FWIW, I hope Stevens doesn't go to IU because when Cal retires, he is my top choice. Everyone else is a very distant 2nd.

Apparently Stevens has already said no thanks. The IU fans are for some reason convinced Donovan is going to be the guy. Not sure why he would even consider it.
