You are certainly entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that you should take it more seriously instead of wanting me to get over it.
tubby stole UK basketball from a generation of UK fans. I won't be getting over that any time soon. Probably closer to never. So have a nice day!!Comment

I still don't understand the basis for this comment, which you've used before.
I didn't particularly care for his tenure here, but he didn't steal anything from me.
Billy Gillsipie might've stolen two years from a generation of UK fans, but Tubby didn't steal anything.👍 1Comment

tubby is a lazy and a liar. Beside the fact that he couldn't coach. He put playing his son ahead of the good of the program. Then he lied about another player's illness in order to keep playing that son.
And he was historically bad. UK has never had a coach in our history that lost 10 games in 3 consecutive seasons. And he did that twice. We only had one other coach that lost 10 games in back to back seasons and that was BCG. And that's directly attributable to the tubby tenure.Comment

If you think BCG was better for UK than Tubby Smith, you're a moron. No offense.👍 2Comment

Billy Gillispie was a mess. Personally, socially, and in basically every other way.
I do agree though that he was put behind the 8-ball by Tubby's last two or three years. That was obvious when you looked at the roster. The recruitment of Patterson and then Miller were huge moments in recent UK history, and Gillispie deserves at least some credit for that. Calipari reaped massive benefits from that just as Gillispie was saved by the inheritance of Jodie Meeks.
But there's never been a worse fit in big-time college sports. The guy was trying to bail out literally the first day he walked into Lexington. He knew he was in over his head, and things got monumentally worse from there.
There's no comparison between Tubby and Gillispie. It's insulting to everybody's intelligence to even go there. The guys Gillispie are in line with are scandal-plagued nobodies like Mike Rice.👍 1Comment

I think you're mistaken. I agree that he did not have the same levels of success that Pitino, Hall and Rupp had. Only an idiot would argue otherwise.
However, I became a fan during Tubby's tenure as coach. I had observed them in the last year and a half under Pitino, but was not a "fan" per se. In '98, I watched and cheered for the Comeback Cats. I started rooting for them after that year, but I became a passionate fan in the 02-03 season. I admired what I saw in that team, and in OTS as a coach. If he stole UK basketball from my generation, then I must not be a fan.
BTW: I do agree that it was time for him to move on and even felt some relief when he did. He did not elevate the program, especially in the last two years. Cal, on the other hand has elevated it. No question. I'm glad he's here.

I started paying attention to college bball at the tail end of Pitino's era, but really it was those first few Tubby teams that I remember most vividly and cemented my super-fan status.
To say he stole UK basketball from "a generation of UK fans" would be offensive if it wasn't so laughably dismissible. He was here as a HC for what, 10 years? I suppose its possible there are some parts of Kentucky where the generations are only 10 years apart...👍 1Comment
