Careful what you wish for. Ga Tech's Triple Option is VERY difficult to prepare for. Georgia has to play them every year and absolutely dreads it. Tech beat them again this year. (With our run defense, believe me, we do NOT want to play GaTech!)

And who are the "pretenders" for moving up with Michigan's loss? Wisconsin, Penn State, Colorado? Oh wait, UM beat all three of them!
Truly, the Wolverines deserve to remain in the Top 4.
Agreed. I think the top four should remain pretty much the same but Clemson and Michigan switching places. Bama, OSU, Clemson, Michigan. I don't think losing on the road to the number two team in double overtime is reason to drop two spots and out of the top four.

The thing that bothers me is that the Conference Champion of what could be argued as the best conference right now will be left out of the playoffs. Add to that fact is the possibility is that if Penn State does become that champion, they will have beaten, on the field of play, the team (O$U) that supplants them in said playoffs.

        Fair? Legit? I think not.

Shucks.....I'm hoping to see Michigan go against Louisville.
Maybe at least one loud mouthed genius coach will get shut up.

An unlikely scenario I know but it is possible. I want the best 4 or 8 whichever it might be. Let the championship game factor into the decision but not be the final factor.
Why not? If, and that's a big if, all the dogs were to win their conference championship games you would have
              23 Florida
              unranked Va Tech
              9 Colorado
              7 Penn State
              10 Oklahoma State

that would just be four slots filled with
              1 Alabama
              2 Ohio State
              3 Clemson

              Playoffs would be
              Bama vs VaTech
              Ohio State vs Florida
              Clemson vs Oklahoma State
              Penn State vs Colorado

Of course all four dogs wouldn't win but who got left out that you think should actually be in there? Washington? They have arguably the weakest resume in the top 8. Michigan? Perhaps but someone has to be left out.

NOthing official but source I trust tells me it looks like UK has been slotted to play in Jacksonville on dec. 31. Kudos to @UKMitchBarnhart

It's called the TaxSlayer Bowl now, formally the Gator Bowl. The other tie-in is ACC with Miami and N Carolina mentioned.

Even two days ago I would have said "no way" However, the SEC apparently makes an effort to avoid sending a team to the same bowl two years out of three. UGa went to TaxSlayer last year and UTn the year before. If you eliminate those two, UK looked like very possible. If this is true, I expect UTn to Music City, UGa to Liberty and Ark to Belk. It's possible UGa even falls to Birmingham with Vandy to Liberty.

Matt is the "kudos to Mitch" from Larry or did you add that? Larry's usually right.

Of course you are right. The chances of all the dogs winning are very slim. My whole point was that I want to see the best teams play each other. I definitely think Washington and Michigan both qualify as top 8. I just don't like the idea of one fluke game qualifying you automatically. And let's be honest if say Florida were to beat Alabama a fluke would be all it could be called.

And one question I would ask. In the above scenario how does Clemson beat out Michigan? Losses to Pitt and Va Tech vs losses to Iowa and Ohio St.

That's from Larry, but if this comes to pass, I 'll second it.

Gator Bowl would be a big step for UK football. This bowl is just below top tier bowls.

The top four after last night are now:

                                1. Alabama
                                2. Ohio State
                                3. Clemson
                                4. Washington

Michigan was 5th. Wisconsin is 6th and Penn State 7th. The highest Big 12 team is Colorado at 8th followed by Oklahoma and OK State. So its likely the Big 12 is left out again this year.

I think Alabama and Ohio State are in no matter what happens this weekend. If Clemson or Washington loses then it looks like Michigan will jump in there followed by either Wisc or Penn State. IMO the time has come to go to 8 teams.
