Yes his first time at Louisville when he lived in Lake Forest he was a complete A hole. Not sure how he is now but I know his first time around he was on a high horse for sure. Perhaps his media experience and backlash truly changed him. We all make mistakes, lord knows I have......

I do know one thing, it sucks to see Louisville football doing so well and UK football treading water to stay afloat. It's hard to get excited at this time but in a perfect world, I would love to see the Cards go undefeated and get knocked off by Kentucky at the end. It's a long season and anything can happen, not ready to throw in the towel just yet for sure......Comment

This is correct. Beat Rick Pitino and UofL in Rupp Arena. Then came within a point of beating Memphis and John Calipari in the Sweet 16. He was definitely thought of as a rising star. Hard to believe the train wreck that turned into.Comment

The only person I remember reading that didn't like the BCG hire was Andy Katz of ESPN. Katz said back then he didn't think BCG was a good fit at UK and was surprised UK hired him. At the time I just shrugged off his comments but in the end he was very correct.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

The unusual thing about Stoops is that we've heard nothing about extracurricular stuff, at least not yet. Almost every time a coach begins to flail you'll hear stories--maybe true, mostly rumor-mill exaggeration--that suggests something's going on behind the scenes. Gillispie got that treatment; Joker did; even Tubby Smith caught a little (Donna).
The criticism about Stoops has remained squarely on the field so far. The only thing I hear people say about him that may be incendiary is that he may not be that sharp.Comment

The facilities thing is the only issue that's keeping Barnhart employed.
As far as hiring coaches he's been disastrous. Outside of places like Rutgers and Boston College, I'm not sure you could find another AD who's had such a monumental issue hiring major-sport coaches in the BCS.
.....
Notre Dame still holding on line 2.
USC (west, not east) holding on line 3.
....
Indiana called back for the 20th time.....
I could go on and on.
There have been monumental horrible hires all across the country.
UofL and Kragthorpe?? Anyone?
MB has his flubs, but he's hardly the horrible AD fanatics are making him out to be. He's definitely not the only AD to make a bad hire.
I remember people screaming at the time it was taking to hire a coach, yet then they turn around and scream because some dirt is dug up on said coach. Its a no win situation with fans.

I've always given Barnhart a pass, even with Gillispie. And then even with Joker, because it made sense in theory.
But Stoops, if we keep going down this path--that's just too many mistakes. There is no way we can give him another crack at hiring anyone. Too many chances blown.
Just giving someone chance after chance to make the right hire is sort of a "not learning from your own mistakes" situation. The dirt that's dug up on these guys, and their inability to actually perform, is the AD's responsibility. After Gillispie I pretty much thought Barnhart had been duped by a guy with real issues. But then he got duped again by Joker. And now possibly a third time by Stoops.
The carousel will have to stop at some point.

The issue with that is that it's just one hire.
If Barnhart had just screwed up once, then you could look around at the other things he's done or been involved with--Cal and the basketball and football facilities being at the top of the list--and sort of just say, "You know, he messed up that one time, but he was able to get it back together with his next move."
And there's still time. Stoops could rewrite both his own and Barnhart's legacy.
But it's not looking good.Comment
