I disagree completely about the two qbs is a death knell idea only when they are completely different. If they are completely different then you can use each to their strength and do more things. If you can do more things then you can take advantage of more deficiencies on the other team. Couple of years ago USC couldn't find a DE or LB to tackle Jojo. Ran it down their throat. Loved it. Can't use that as a base offense all the time.
I would recruit a QB every year. Every five years I'd take 3 Pro style QBs and 2 running style QBs.
I know you guys hated it, but... I loved having Jared and Aaron on the field at the same time. I liked it when Jared went wide and the safety had to close down because he's so big he'd smash the CB, creating a 10 on 9 situation. I liked Aaron as a RB. I liked Aaron as a big WR for a big armed Jared to throw towards. UK fan wasn't all that wrong when they saw him as a TE in the NFL because of these things. I think UK fan doesn't know what they are watching when they boo such things. Aaron Boyd was in the NFL longer than Jared. UK fan will never live that down to me. Especially as long as they cry for an Air Raid that chews up players. Multiple, take advantage of whatever you can, period. Take nothing off the table. We will find a way to beat whomever.

You need one QB that wins. If he is playing well and winning games there will never be a need to play another one. Name three teams that had major success consistently using two QBs.
I think one thing John is pointing out is that some head coaches have found that they have a quarterback that has more of a talent for running but another that has more of a talent for passing. That coach finds a way to use those talents in a given situation. As far as consciously recruiting that way, I think you would have to have one heckuva staff to teach your players how to switch
at a moments notice from the pass sets to the run packages.
Georgia did that years ago when I was a much younger pup instead of a grey dog.
Teams have had real success with dual purpose guys....WVU years ago, Prescott can do some of both but his passing gets overlooked. Houston does it now. If the two teams that do that dreaded triple option....Georgia Tech and Navy....have a real solid dual purpose guy that can be frightening to scheme against.
Just hard these days to find that special kid that is a combination of slinger and runner and has the size needed. I think most coaches these days recruit those 'athlete' players for a lot of different slots other than qb.
There's one option that seems to be overlooked. We are undefeated when we start a WR at QB! Ok, we've got apples and oranges so I thought I would throw a banana in the mix. Time for me to put the bottle down and step away from the bar. I just want one QB that can get it done. It would be great to have a hero. I just struggle with one great play and a series of plays that don't go anywhere or go in the other direction.
