As reported, 30+ Missouri football players announced today they would cease participating in all football-related activities until the University's President resigns or is fired. Players are supporting campus protest against racism. While I expect some sort of compromise, it will be interesting to monitor the developments.

In my 60 seconds of googling, I could find much on what their president did or failed to do that warrants his resignation.
His car was blockaded by a student group protesting racism and he failed to address them. A swastika was painted in poo on a residence hall and... That's all I got.
I wonder what is happening on that campus?
Pinkel says he supports his players, (presumably against his boss) I assume he knows which way the wind blows.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that... I wonder if they were 5-4, instead of 4-5, and leading the SEC East, if they'd be skipping practice and team meetings?Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

Something odd is happening on that campus. This is apparently a student uprising. A head coach publicly supporting his players against the school president is a mighty serious and strange situation looking from the outside....especially when it's the state flagship school.👍 1Comment

The faculty is now planning a campus-wide walk-out.
This has to be an extension of the Black Lives Matter movement in some ways. I think we're in an odd time racially in this country for a lot of reasons, one being that there's a massive disconnect between the way black Americans seem to think about social issues and the way whites do.

Sounds like a really bad situation going on out there. I won't pretend to know what all their concerns are but I don't doubt that it all leads back to the Ferguson incident. The football players especially, better be sure sure of what they are doing though. Or they could find themselves without a scholarship and a free education. An opportunity they many never have again.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

In an "odd time racially in this country" is putting it mildly IMO.
We could go for years in a thread (and probably have a longer one than the infamous "Rumor Mill" thread lol) talking about the current near boiling point IMO race relations have come to in this Country.
I fear things may get worse before they improve unfortunately....
Situations like this one in Missouri may become a trend and may get uglier...Comment

This brings back memories of California in the 60's. It seemed that every time you turned around the students at the University Of California (Berkeley) were protesting something.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

IMO, the BOT should tell Pinkel to get back to doing the job he's being paid to do, and he should be instructed to tell the players to get back to being student athletes or their scholarships will be revoked immediately.Philippians 4:11-4:13👍 4Comment

If the aren't going to play football then take away their scholarships and make them pay their own way.....
that is my take on the situationLast edited by TrueblueCATfan; 11-09-2015, 09:35 AM.Comment

The issue is that it's gone way past the players. If it were just a football issue you might threaten revoking scholarships, but now it's a student- and faculty-wide thing. How many of those regular students are on a full scholarship? At least some.
So you're in a tricky area and basically it looks like a revolt. The major issues seem to be the Swastika drawn in feces on the wall and the fact that the president allegedly hit a few protesters with his car recently. (Or his driver did.) I would say there's a bunch of other stuff going on as well that hasn't been reported.Comment

There are different and differing views on social and political issues here and I'm sure we all feel strongly. Being a Kentucky graduate, I just wanted to make that point. I don't know what is happening on the campus at the University of Missouri so I'm hesitant to say what should or should not be the thing to do. There definitely seems to be a need for dialogue and communication. I really hope we can focus on football and sports here. I don't react well to demands myself, or to name calling regardless of source.Comment

Apparently they ceased participating with the start of the second half against Mississippi State.................Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

As we've reported, for months now a group of students has been demanding that the university address what they say is systemic racism on campus. Throughout the protest, the university has been rocked by a series of racially charged incidents. It all came to a head when student protesters confronted Wolfe at a homecoming parade.
Wolfe didn't address the students and the students claim that the car Wolfe was in nicked at least one of them as it drove off.
Seriously, I have no idea about the veracity of the claims of systemic racism on their campus but the car thing seems blown WAY out of proportion. This ain't exactly Selma.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that...
