Avoiding the Portal had to hurt Clemson, mainly because you can only avoid it for so long, because he can't have much control over the players he has on the roster using it to leave. He's got to replace them with somebody.

Either Sweeny winds up on his feet somewhere like OK St. or Wisconsin, or even Florida for that matter, I think his record and two National Championships will get him a solid job somewhere. There could be quite a few P4 jobs open before all is said and done. Many more than last year. If not Sweeny will land on TV somewhere.

    Clemson
    Florida
    Va Tech
    UCLA
    Wisconsin
    Kentucky
    Arkansas
    Auburn
South Carolina (Think Beamer would be at top of Va Tech's list)

Jobs that could come open due to coaches moving
    Ole Miss
    Syracuse

Competition for good coaches is going to be tough if we're in the market next year, which is why I think Sumrall will be our choice if we get on him early enough. I think like Mark Pope he'd crawl here to coach over any of those others.
I have no idea why Sumrall is going to do better at UK, they just got smoked over the weekend. People believe he can get better players at UK? Sorry, I’m not buying it.

Va Tech is not a job you leave an SEC school for, if Beamer leaves, he would be as stupid as he looks. I just don't see Clemson firing Dabo, but they will absolutely overhaul their coaching staff. The rest of your list looks really accurate. I too suspect that Ole Miss will be added when Kiffin goes to Florida. Does Wisconsin have the balls to rehire Bielema? A name that will be hard to pry loose, but would be at the top of my list if I was any AD is Brent Key. He would be my first call at UK, followed by Sumrall, Will Stein, and Bryan Haynes.

Va Tech is a lateral move from SC. And I can easily see Beamer making that move due to his ties to that school. His dad coached there for a million years, he played and coached there under his Dad. So if SC has a mediocre season and his seat is warm, I can definitely see him making that move.

I honestly don’t see Clemson firing Dabo either, he’s earned the right to try and fix the problems.

As far as Stoops goes, if this season goes in the toilet we can’t afford NOT to fire Stoops. We’ll lose more in revenue than his buyout will cost.

Dry late summer early fall in our area. All the hot seats around we might have a nationwide forest fire brewing on our hands. Beamer or Stoops loses, whichever, the seat will get like the shop class bar stool with a piece of masking tape on the bottom. Just a quick flick of the Bic and man does your butt burn.

Auburn losing on a questionable call is laughable with some of the hundreds of calls they have received.

The coaching go round will turn into a continual cyclone with NIL and transfer kicking in.

Is Mark Pope getting better players at UK than he got at BYU? It's all relative. He coaches in a Conference that recruits from a different pool of players than the Power 4 Conferences. He got some pretty good players for us when he was here. Some argue he was a better recruiter than Marrow. Beginning to think you wouldn't be happy unless we plucked Nick Saban out of retirement.

Welp, Add Mike Gundy to the list of coaches putting out their resumes. OK State just fired him. Will be interesting to see where he winds up. Not sure if he's one I would want us to pursue, but if you discount his last two seasons, he's had a pretty solid record. Not sure what's caused the rapid downfall, they played for the Big 12 Championship in 2023.

After Gundy got fired, I don’t care who UK hires. Cut throat sport has zero loyalty. 170-90? Wow ?

Quotes like this on NIL probably didn't help him, "This will go away. This can't last.' And then it just kept building momentum. And then after a point, about 18 months ago, I said, 'This is not going away. We're going to have to make some real adjustments here.' So, the truth be known, this portal class from January is the first class that we ever bought. We had not bought portal kids. That hurt us."

Him and Dabo seemed like two coaches who didn't want to jump into NIL and the portal. I assume most coaches don't enjoy NIL and the portal, but it is part of the game and not embracing it will drive players away.

Surprising they dumped Gundy. He's had some very good teams at Okie St and I think he'd eventually get it turned around. If the interest in him is somewhat lukewarm in the P4 conferences, would he accept an OC job, like Chip Kelly did at OSU, at a major program with the goal of jumping to a HC job next cycle around? His teams almost always had really good offenses. Defense has been their Achilles heel for the most part. Would the NFL want him as an OC/QB coach - no NIL, no recruiting, more time to teach/develop, etc. If it were me, I think I'd be more likely to take a coordinator/asst coach job in the NFL vs the Wild West of CFB nowadays. Surely he's made plenty of bank as HC at OkSt and could easily accept a few hundred grand as an asst or more as an OC for an NFL team.

I agree, how does Kentucky afford the buyout? Someone
please explain to me how that happens.
